Hi
I'm on Haighton Drive and I know that for telephone and broadband I'm connected to the BT exchange at Ribbleton. Currently I have a 1Mb service but the exchange is enabled upto 8Mb. Anyone else in our locality getting a faster speed than this that has broadband supplied via a BT line (rather than Cable)? I think the issue maybe that I/We are too far from the exchange and therefore our lines won't support a faster speed than 1Mb at the moment.
Thanks
TinTin

i live not to far away at gamull lane and the recent increase of 8mb from bt allows me to recieve 5mb.unless you change network to cable then no other supplier will be able to offer more than what bt can.

Thanks for the replies. I did some digging around with BT and I'll be upgraded to 2.5 Mb on Friday. Turns out they don't give you the extra speed until you ask! Great eh?
it's worth to keep checking what you can get, it said I could get 5mb 2 weeks ago, it say 6.5 for me now.

Since my last posting on this I've gone down to 2Mb again. I knew it couldn't last. This is BT after all!
spoke to a bt engineer who said the only possibility of 8mgb either with
them or car phone talk talk would be well off peak or in other words when
everyone's partaking of horizontal meditation zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!:)

It really pisses me off when people slag BT. If you don't like it go somewhere else and see the shite service you get then!

I work in the business (TalkTalk) and the only way of getting 8mb is if you are ontop of the exchange, in the early hours of the morning. It's all down to contention ratios, which CAN NOT be helped. In my honest opinion, Talewest/Cable are the best providers of broadband.
If BT promised "upto" 8mb, they were right. However, they do not state who can get this. It's entirely down your proximity to the exchange. Cable use fibreoptic cable, meaning you will always get the same speed.
Very very boring!!!!!!!!!

I've been on 2Mb for some time now. This past couple of weeks it's been dropping to around 1.5Mb.
I contacted BT India and they told me there was a fault on the line.
Yesterday morning and indeed today my 2Mb is currently an amazing 3.9Mb.
I just don't know how they do it.;)
