A young girl from Cardinal Newman College was knocked down by a bus on Queen Street yesterday....Bless she's only 16 years of age.

Thursday's are a nightmare round that area. it seems that on a Thursday all the students seem to leave at the same time. That part of Queen Street is a nightmare when students are coming out of the college. I only said the other week that somebody was going to get knocked down if they aren't careful...don't get me wrong because I don't know what's happened yet and nobody deserves to lose their life, but when the students are crossing the road they will cross when the red man is on and they will just continue to cross and cross no matter how much the traffic is backing up due to them crossing...they laugh and snigger as if to say they own the road and have right of way. They don't abide by the little red and green men when they are all together.

It's very sad that a young girl has died and I only hope that the bus driver hasn't carried on driving through being annoyed at the students because he will never be able to forgive himself...I have seen other drivers drive through them or very close to them on numerous occasions. He's said to be extremely shaken and distraught. I just leave the students to it until they've all crossed over and then drive but even my friend, at times, has started to drive when the lights have changed to give her right of way.

We only found out this morning. I was in my media class, and the our tutor told us, and a friend of hers, who i sit next too, wasnt aware she had died, and burst into tears and ran out of the class. Poor girl. I think its 4 students from my year that have died this year..terrible

I workin in the Frenchwood area, and walked past the scene yesterday about an hour after it had happened. Of course, I didn't know what had happened at the time, save to say the road was closed and several police were there. Very sad indeed.

Road Engineers will have to treat the Students like they Act - Little Children
who need Adult / Mature suoervision + Physical Barriers to stop them being
'naughty'.

Have a Lollipop Lady and Barrier the kerbs for 50 metres either side of the
Pelican.

It seems the young lady was on her phone at the time and just walked out in front of the bus.

The driver hadn't a hope in hell of stopping and on-board CCTV will no doubt prove it.

I'm not sure how I would have coped if a close friend of mine had died at such an early age!

I'm a friend of a friend of the girl and I'm very surprised she has has died instead of some idiot. Every time I talked to her she seemed intelligent.

Yep its terrible. I think its something like 8 people from Newman, this year, have died...7 of which, car related accidents. My friend Michael Walker was one of them...one of the nicest people you would ever meet. Think about him every day.

It does always seem to be the nice people that are taken away from us.

Very sad indeed.

If she was on her mobile as reported and didn't notice the bus, will people who insist on using their mobile without hands free and driving at the same time, just realise what risks you are taking AND STOP IT!!

Deepest sympathy to the girl's family.

I think Betenoir was referring to the lack of concentration whether the person be walking or driving whilst using the phone thegooooooooooch. Trying to make people realise, who do drive without hands free, just what can happen due to lack of concentration.
