I have spent crazy money on my pc over years, constant upgrades but one thing i never spend on is antivirus bullshit. Windows defender is all you need just stay away from dodgy sites and you will be trouble free for years like me! Use an ipad or phone if you wanna look at porn or anything

I dont particularly want to part with the 90 or so that they are asking for ..

Any suggestions - preferably free !
Leave the pc switched off..that seems to work the best.

Does it have to be your own phone or is it best to trawl through filth on someone else handset?

Sounds like a power supply issue to me. Either that or the monitor could have fluid in it.

It doesn't matter - just any device that your missus doesn't know about.

I haven't used any in 10 years - call me cynical but i think they infect your computer once your subscription expires making you think you need it and renew.
Just be careful not to click on silly things and don't get conned into believing you need it. Its a big scam.

Use free Commodo as the Firewall - it's very effective , I got rid of the Dragon Browser and their Internet Security as I was advised in the Microsoft Action Centre - it was conflicting with Avast free anti virus - according to reports I've read , it's nearly as good as paid for Kapersky

I use free Malware Bites and CC Cleaner .

The Commodo does take up quite a bit of resource though - I was doing the Microsoft three finger shuffle - Control / Alt / Delete to get to the Task Manager to quit an app and found out it was taking half the processor's power in the old elderly Dell Inspiron laptop , these days data heavy social media takes up a lot of memory and power , Google Chrome is a memory hound too ! - so now using Opera , but it's the same engine apparently

No wonder I could hear the processor whining and the fan going .

I also have Nirsoft portable Wireless Network Watcher and Soft Perfect Wi-Fi Guard www.snipica.com/23849 & www.snipica.com/23870 - the old joke - Broadband Deal - next door , I'd trust those fluckers as far as I could throw them , if one of them said it was friday today , overcast and it had been raining , I'd check and have a look outside . They should have never closed Whittington and Greaves Hall ! .

I read a very interesting article in Computer Active entitled ' Lock Down your PC ' and acted accordingly https://www.pressreader.com/uk/compu...84210875475288

I have Ubuntu 17.04 alongside the Windows OS .....the install was a breeze , partitioning the drive for me , it's been a bit of a learning curve and you have to change your attitude . It's like a cross between Windows and a Mac . All I needed was to put a Sudo ( Superuser ) command in Terminal to put Uncomplicated Firewall in and another to put a Graphical Interface on it

I have Google Chrome , Opera and Firefox , VLC and Thunderbird - some of the burning and music free apps are very good - saves having to pay for the likes of Nero etc . The desktop old Dell computer is quiet as a mouse .

For those who do watch those daft grainy and fuzzy British porn films which must be 15 -20 yrs old , and the ' actors ' and ' actresses ' must be pensioners now ! - it might be a solution and there's a app called Bleach Bit to remove history , cookies etc - the Linux version of CC Cleaner - so people don't end up in the spare room / shed in case anyone checks up .
