Why pick Stokes yet say he's currently unavailable to actually play?
Some of the selections are a bit strange..... I don't think Curran did a lot wrong in Oz but hasn't been given another chance, Why pick Stokes when he cant play and does anybody else think that Moeen was lucky to survive ??

    Well done Liam...........

I believe Moeen was never fit during the series. He started with a side/back injury and then split his finger. One thing about Ali, is he can give it a rip from time to time, something there was no sign of, presumably due to the damaged finger. Maybe they feel another 5 weeks treatment and rest and he will come back well in NZ. They don't seem to fancy Leach at the moment and there are few other off spin options.

I think Vince and Stoneman are lucky, I can't understand why we don't seem prepared to give Eoin Morgan or Alex Hales another chance in the test arena, both better batsmen in my opinion.

Morgan last played first class cricket 2 and a half years ago.

    Bagged a pair.

Didn't realize that. So he hasn't played county cricket for the past two seasons

A white ball specialist - not bad work if you can get it!

Looks like he's in good nick though and well bowled Mo.

Hales is an interesting option for the Test team though. He'd be very dangerous at 5 or 6 if encouraged to play his natural game. Will be interesting to see how he plays for Notts in Div 1 but I'm not 100% convinced he's got the appetite for Test cricket. Hope I'm wrong.

Ive always thought he could do a job at test level but it should have been a year or two ago.

In my opinion however, Livingstone now has more to his game and is better suited. He can do what Hales does ie destroy bowling (maybe not as quickly as Hales) but he is much more adaptable. He can block, he can rotate the strike, he can change the pace of an innings - Hales is nowhere near as flexible. Livingstone is also a better bowler than hes given credit for, Mr Hogg was extremely impressed by him when they played and trained together.

I do also think Mahmood would have been very close to this squad were it not for an injury hit season. Note how often he gets picked for Lions squads regardless of form and whether or not hes playing for Lancs. He is exceptionally highly regarded.

There are basically two types of people. People who accomplish things, and people who claim to have accomplished things. The first group is less crowded.
