Not quite a pub but there will be a bar in it but Level is planned to open on 8th December in the guild hall. It will have 10 pin bowling, pool tables, interactive darts and a sports bar. Part of a 3 floor entertainment facility which will include a zap zone type place and an assault course.

Shame, not the first time it's happened to them. I recall their 150 year old window being smashed a few years back.

Angel 39 in Preston city centre, formerly known as The Angel pub, has undergone a major refurbishment.

The Angel 39, which has been described as somewhere between a luxury bar and a pub, came under new management last November.

Daniel Alderson, manager, and his team have put in a lot of hard work and effort to turn around the venue into a modern and classy place, with fashionable decor and reasonably priced drinks.

The venue, located at 39 Lune Street, will relaunch on Saturday 28 October.

Downstairs, Angel 39 has been transformed into a whole new room, with a modern bar, new wooden flooring, and exposed red brick walls that contrast well with adjacent quirky wallpaper.

The room also features brand new seating, eye catching wall art and effective lighting that brings the place to life.

The bar has an array of drinks available, including cask ale beers, cocktails and spirits.

Live music takes place downstairs on Friday and Saturday evenings, so come and be entertained by live musicians from 5pm whilst enjoying tasty beverages.

The upstairs room has also been transformed into a space full of character, featuring a gold and grey colour-scheme.

It includes booths with gold seating, grey carpets, black and gold wallpaper and an impressive wine bar which is the room’s main feature.

The space, surrounded by effective lighting, has been created to provide another room available for private hire and enable more guests to visit the venue.

The toilets have also been totally refurbished, and they are unique with communal facilities for men and women.

Daniel Alderson, manager, said: “I have worked in many pubs in Preston and so have a lot of experience, but Angel 39 has certainly been the one I’m most passionate and excited about working on.

“We want people to know that we are open, and have totally transformed the place into somewhere you wouldn’t recognise from before.

“It’s not a pub, but it’s not a luxury bar either – All the staff are trained to make fantastic cocktails and drinks, and we have a range to choose from including gins and beer that is brewed locally.

“It was one of the oldest pubs in Preston and there is a lot of history to the building.

“We have made it into something modern, but kept ‘angel’ included in the name.

“Our relaunch will take place on Saturday 28 October.

“So come and take a look at the place and see how it has changed into somewhere that you can enjoy drinks, away from the rowdy top end of town where people ‘typically go and get drunk’ on nights out.”

Cocktail and gin masterclasses are also available at Angel 39 from just £15 per person, teaching you the tricks of the trade to making the perfect drink.

You can attend the relaunch on Saturday 28 October, and Angel 39 will be open from then onwards.

Odd this has been published as 'Angel 39' was refurbished and reopened nearly 12 months ago. We first went in after the missus had sung at a Christmas concert in the church opposite and we've been a few times since. Whilst the missus says the cocktails are ace and well priced the beer lineup has been poor on every visit with all the cask pumps off and a dire draught selection rescued by Staropramen's 4% 'Pravha' pilsner.

Unfortunately when we went in two weeks ago the signs the place was in trouble, which had been commonplace in the late 2000s until it shut completely a few years back, had returned. The fridges behind the bar were either half empty or turned off completely, the Pravha had been replaced by a second Coors Light tap and the cask pumps had been removed. Despite it being the start of the new uni term the place was dead with approximately 8 other people in the bar.

I get the feeling this article is the owner trying to get the place noticed after spending a lot of money and getting very litte back. From my point of view if the beer could be as good as the cocktails and they spent a lot more time advertising via social media there would be a few more thirsty people going through the door.

LEP reporting that Penwortham is to get its first micropub on Liverpool Road which is good news indeed as bar the Black Bull on Cop Lane, there isn't a single place you can get good ale in Penwortham. The Fleece does sell cask but it is generally rubbish pubco stuff like Wainwright and Bombardier with prices around £4 a pint.

The LEP article is, unsurprisingly, a bit pants so I'm not sure who is taking charge of the place but there seems to be some link with one of the 73 micropubs in Chorley.

    Longton next please.
