I think playing him up top alongside Riis is the only option we have. Maguire , Barky, Stockley is a far worse alternative as a lone striker and one with which has proved fruitless for months.Playing him up top is not playing to his strengths. You think battling with centre backs and holding the ball up is what he’s good at?
And as for the playing full back thing, take a look at where Hoilett and Ojo were when we had the ball. Hell, Harry Kane ran the length of the pitch to make a tackle. This idea that our plays our being coached only to defend is getting stale now
When you say it’s getting stale now , what is your point ?
My view would be that too many times we concern ourselves too much of the opposition , we step off the oppositions most creative players , we waste natural flair by being rigid in a formation and tactic. Granted this maybe because we have a squad devoid of skill and ability not helped by piss poor transfer window after another.
The latter I would guess most agree with the former I don’t , we have a decent group when all fit. They have the ability when playing the high press , allowing the 8 and 10 to run on and our wingers ala Barky of old to bomb on.
Neil has been lauded as a tactician , I would love to do a comparison between the time Neil drills our boys with the way to nullify the opposition compared to the opposition to us. I still back Neil and the club clearly did hence his uplifted contract. However it was soured for me how he played the media and us on an important day for the club at West Brom.
I hope this is another shitty post international break performance but we need to be talking more of performances like brentford 2nd half , taking the game to Sheff Wed late on , Barnsley at home sooner rather than later.
For now winning is important but I would even take an ounce of excitement in the coming matches , particularly at a crumbling fortress deepdale.
We go again
