Simon Grayson leaves the cod army

Sunderland job (and that documentary) probably aged him 20 years.

Good manager, better than his record over the last few years suggests. Definitely needs a bit of time out.
His leaving North End left a bad taste, all about how great Sunderland were, massive club, unfortunately for him he wasn't good enough for them, leaving him looking like a prick.

No feelings for Grayson at all, wouldn't even consider him as a back up to ST.

Did Steve Thompson do his job for him?

Grayson has been awful since that partnership ended.
There were rumours of lazy recruitment when he was here. He tended to sign players who’d done well for him before at previous clubs.

Most of those players have either retired or are past it now, so he doesn’t have that bank to fall back on. His record seems to have gone downhill since.

The first 2 seasons under Neil was miles better than watching Grayson's side to be fair, genuinely fancied us away from home against anyone.

If anyone ruined it then I'm looking beyond the managers.
Tbh, I was looking partly from a personal perspective and sadly Neil was part of the problem.

Grayson wasn't responsible for recruitment, Hemmings and Ridsdale were (largely the former).

Needs a Break. Sadly his jobs have not been for him. Going back to Blackpool was doomed for failure day 1, Sunderland was in a Mess, Fleetwood, well you can't polish a turd. Bradford was struggling. Always been seen as Mr Rescue, rather that a move forward after he left us. Yes I would have him back here over Frankie or above Frankie, but thats only because Frankie is not a Manager. He'll be back in Football, hopefully for him its not a relegation battle club again.

Wonder if they'll take Thompson off our hands as their next number one. He's been linked before

So beckford, Kilkenny and Tom Clarke were nothing to do with Grayson managing these before? It was Hemmings and ridsdale who decided to recruit them not Grayson.

There were arguments that Hemmings did bring in and sign certain players but Grayson chose most of them.

Tom Clarke was Grayson's decision, all the rest were Trevor's decisions (straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak).

He also persuaded Everton to sell MgGeady t' Mackems (wtf's that Black Cats bollox?) and / or persuaded 'em to buy him.
So that's (yet)another player from elsewhere he likes to utilize again.

Yeah but he would also have had a new bank of players to then try and get....?

It was a lazy criticism thrown at Grayson but the players he signed that he'd had before were (mostly) mainstays in our team - Clarke, Baptiste, Beckford.

We could also switch between 3 at the back or 4 at the back with no drop in performances. A great manager for us, left at the right time and hasn't done it since. League 2 beckons.

According to one of the Lashers on one of their forums , he ran the club when Ian Holloway was away during the week ; either back in Bristol or in London

It tallies , I believe people haf seen him at Preston station out on the trains , waiting for a lift or whatever .🤔

* Allegedly doubled his salary but yes Sunderland is one massive poisoned chalice 🤔
