Life helping books?

That does surprise me. Was it too theoretical?
I thought it would tap into the anxiety side of things but it was more about fear controlling your life such as 'not going for that promotion at work' etc.

It was interesting don't get me wrong and I'll definitely take something away from it but was hoping for more on the anxiety side. Especially after Matt Haig's Notes on a nervous planet hit all the right notes for me.

I think that's simply that Pippa Grange is an applied psychologist, and Matt Haig is a writer.

I read read this a few months ago and it was a funny, but sensitive and reflective account of social anxiety. Something I've always had and probably will do. Made me laugh a lot.

I've been doing quite a lot of research into Trauma Informed Practice recently, in a professional capacity.
I came across this practitioner Gabor Manè. Hungarian/Canadian, he was a victim of the nazis.
A doctor, physician initially but presently specialising in psychiatry.
His work, the study of trauma and how it affects our mental and physical health, relationships and ultimately the destiny of our species is ground breaking and revolutionary.
Deeply insightful, yet jargon free, speaks in terms that we all can understand.
I highly recommend anybody who has has mental health problems, physical health-especially inflammatory diseases/auto immune, even cancer to listen to the interview below.
Its help me understand how I have adapted my behaviour and how I have dealt with and reacted to situations and events. Deeply unhealthy and has held me back throughout my life.
Issues with self confidence, stress, self esteem, addiction, avoidance, ADHD, depression and repressed anger, (to list only a few issues) are all adressed the through the lens of childhood trauma.
It's never too late to look with curiosity and compassion at our own destructive behaviours and make the changes to properly look after ourselves, our loved ones and society in general.
Be nice to yourselves and give this a watch.

Yep I know the above is a YouTube clip. See below info about the book he references. His website is a trove of information too.

I read your post on this, and have sent a copy to my daughter. I hope I did the right thing, she is going through a tough time at the moment, stress and depression.

Unfortunately I cannot make the journey to Preston to see her, if I could I would but perhaps it may help.

I rarely send a book I haven't read myself, but I did read reviews and the history of the author.
Hope the book helps your daughter and she is feeling better very soon.

"The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle might interest a few of you.

Brief synopsis: Eckhart Tolle demonstrates how to live a healthier, happier, mindful life by living in the present moment.

I highly recommend everybody to watch this. By Gabor Matè, the inspiration I have mentioned above.
Looks at the world through the lens of childhood trauma.
It will change the way we all see one another.
Trauma informed practice will become the norm in the next few years, firstly through public services, then hopefully through the whole of our society.
Some of the content is intense and may trigger pain and trauma from childhood but the overall catharsis is definitely worth it
This will change some people's lives.
There is an optional paywall but the donations go towards making it more generally available.
The more people who get to see it the better.

Finished Vex Kings Good Vibes Good Life book last month.
Really enjoyed it, didn't quite have the mental impact that Notes On A Nervous Planet by Matt Haig had but I'd still recommend this.

I've downloaded How to survive the end of the world as recommended by @Soapy - Was 99p on Apple books the other month so I just downloaded it.

Having a breather from non-fiction at the mo so reading a Harry Potter book, still love these since reading them at school years ago.

Some great recommendations on here though all.

Hope you like it. It made me laugh, but I'm a left wing vacuous toss pot.

Malcy, did you like my post because you liked the book or you think I'm a liberal lefty space cadet?
Both!! Haha,
