7 players played, 4 did not

Re: 7 players played, 4 did not

I've said it before but at this level Whaley is largely wasted when played wide out on the right. When that happens he becomes little more than a push-and-run winger. OK he may have got past the fullback a few times early on last night when he was fresh, but once he tired a bit he became increasingly ineffective. Frankly once he loses that edge of speed he lacks the trickery to compensate for the fact and to provide himself with a bit of space. He is much better when he is around the edge of the penalty box from where his shooting ability is always dangerous. A really imaginative rearrangement of existing resources would see Whaley switch to the left side of midfield from where he could cut in and run right at the centre of the opposing defence instead of merely towards the corner flag. Pugh, who lacks the aggression to be a really effective attacker, could then possibly be played at left back from where he could come up on the overlap to exploit the space left by Whaley dragging the defenders in-field.

Aside from the individual performances, Simmo's tactical deficiencies were exposed by another example of not knowing how to play against 10 men for the second time in three home games.

You mean winning both games, unlike that master tactician Craig Brown who managed to lose against ten men? Simmo should go on his some of his courses.
