Aggressive Travellers cause severe damage to Thwaites

A rather worrying invasion took place at the weekend when over 100 travellers took over the new Thwaites head office and brewery site in Mellor.

During their occupation the group were very aggressive towards Thwaites staff preventing them from entering the site and coupling their usual littering on an industrial scale with breaking into the office complex and ransacking it. The police finally dealt with the group after intervention from the local MP who managed to convince Lancs Constabulary officers that Aggressive Trespass is a criminal and not a civil matter.

The travellers left yesterday so heads up to anyone in the area as these lot seem a particularly nasty group with no qualms regarding damaging property and being aggressive towards landowners.

They left? You mean on bail or something?

Thwaites haven't said what has taken place in terms of arrests etc just that the travellers have gone. If it's like most cases involving them they'll get away scot free through lack of evidence.

, it's just shown on the local news the brewery was being used by the travellers as a toilet and they have had to pour 2000 pints down the drain in case it has been contaminated. Nasty bastards.

And they wonder why they are not very well liked.

I don't think they wonder at all, they just don't give a shit about anyone but themselves.

How the hell is this sort of behaviour legal or just ignored my law enforcement? It's not discrimination to outlaw and clamp down on "cultural" activities that are illegal, otherwise we'd still have FGM, public stonings, and child marriages. Force them to integrate into civilised society or arrest them the moment they give the police a reason. Trespassing and damaging private property are trespassing and criminal damage whether you're a traveller or not.

This happened at the old Penny street site, not Mellor Brook. Im sure the Mellor site hasnt yet opened.

I noticed some travellers on Waverley park, on Saturday, wondering if its the same group?

I think thats the key, on this one, that it was private property as opposed to public land.

Its actually quite odd as theyre pretty savvy in knowing what they can and cannot get away with.

That really shouldn't matter though. Someone owns that property, whether it's private citizens or corporations, or the state and by extension the taxpayer, and causing damages should therefore be a criminal offence in either case imo

Nothing but scum.

They think that the Laws of the Land don't apply to them.

Funny how the Police will be aggressive with their Batons, Shields, etc at any demonstration no matter how peaceful yet when it comes to this certain group...

Applyby Horse fair starts on Thursday so there will be an increased number of travelers passing through the area in the coming days and likely to be many different groups.

The irony is that this dates back to the 1600s when Britain, Shock horror, was attempting to deport immigrants. In this case it was "Gypsies," (Egyptians) Back then they were even Executed.

It seems they were tolerated as the years went on as they became a cheap source of farm labour etc.

That does make sense as the ones on waverley had a lot of livestock grazing.

Is the park off Blackpool Road? We got a shock seeing 6/7 horses grazing on the football pitches until we saw the caravans.

Re Thwaites thought they'd have moved by now but obviously not. Hope the police manage to make some of the damage stick to those who did it but it's very unlikely.

Should’ve driven em out when we could then!
