Alex Neil's position

none of us really know his motivations, but my pennyworth is "he is only mid 30s and the big clubs can still come in a decade or so", he has a young family who he will probably not want to be moving about every 18 months, he has said 'time and again' he prefers to develop "a project" than trying to buy success.....WE are a project and he has also said he's never been happier than he is at PNE....

So - yes he will go to a big club - but not now and not until 'this project' has reached its goal or hit the buffers!
Good Post...and everything Alex Neil has said points to this being the case.
Aside from obvious financial motivations (though we shouldn't forget he is handsomely paid at pne) is WBA such a great job? Fans expect a mid table Premier league club and even when that was delivered they drove Tony Pulis out in the quest for a more attractive style of play.
They seem a club with high expectations but without the necessary forward planning and infrastructure to be able to achieve those expectations

Manager
Something that AN must realise is that there are very few clubs where a manager would have survived the crisis we endured last October. That must count for something. Has any club ever gone from being bottom of the table almost three months into the season to making the play-offs?

Not sure on that exact stat - though Sunderland under Keane in 06/07 lost their first 4 games, and were 19th after playing 17 games yet still managed to win the league.

Keane wasn't manager for those first 5 games, Niall Quinn was.

Keane took over when they had just the 1 point. He then won the league in the remaining 41 games.

You're right, Quinn was in charge (and sacked himself!), though Quinn signed off with a win v West Brom - I'm sure Keane was already lined up prior to that.

They're 4th, they'll comfortably make the play offs and they have a real shot of promotion, on that basis it'd be a hard job to turn down.

However time is ticking on, games come fast in April (we have 6, others have more, Bristol have 8) so the likelihood is they'll look for someone out of work to quickly come in and try and get them over the line.

I'm sure Neil is on the list, it's no coincidence that Wagner, Jokanovic and Neil are on the list as winners of the play offs a few seasons back. Bruce would have been as well I'm sure if he hadn't just gone into Sheff Wed.
....and if they are bottom of the Premier League in October, they could be out of a job.

I don't think he will go. He's one of the youngest, brightest manager's in the football league at the minute. As he's alluded too in the LEP, if he was to go and things don't work out, he risks tarnishing his good reputation that could land him a better job in the future.

Not seen anything linking AN to the job ,he's not even in the betting lists to get the job. Doubt he's as attractive a proposition to bigger clubs as we think he is , most clubs seem to see us as a dirty ,hardworking, shithousing club playing unattractive football. He's probably more attractive to a big club that's in free fall and needs some spine putting in it .WBA is not that club.

Didn’t Notts Forest do it under Billy Davies?

He's 5/2 2nd fav on Sky Bet.

The fact the others are the list include Appleton, Nigel Pearson and Gary Rowett means that Neil is definitely in with a shout.

Just looked on odds checker an they are only quoting Betfair who don't list him but they've obviously not working right , as you say 5/2 with Slybet and 6/4 with PP. Don't know what price he opened at but its one of those markets that informed money tends to mean something. Hopefully they will be their opening prices and no one has had a bet , if he has been backed down to those prices we've got a problem.
