Armed police have cordoned off an area of Dovedale Avenue, Ingol, after a man with a sword was seen in the street.

Officers were called to the incident shortly after 8am and found the man at a house nearby, with a pitchfork and a knife.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We were called around 8.05am today (Friday, May 22) to a report of suspicious circumstances in Dovedale Avenue, Preston.

“It was reported a man was seen walking on the street with a sword.

“Officers attended with the man found at an address in possession of a pitchfork and knife.

“Following concerns for his welfare a cordon has been established with armed officers and a police negotiator at the scene.”

Claiming there wasn't a need for such an amount of police officers.

Someone armed and that likely to be dangerous warrants such an operation, with streets flanked off and the ensurance that nobody goes into the danger zone. The police come in for some very justified stick; this is not one of those cases.
