Brexit never? Britain can still change its mind, says Article 50 autho

You have a successful market stall in the heart of a busy community market.
You pay a tenner a week for the pitch, but sell thousands of pounds of stock.
You decide to save the tenner, so move your pitch to a backstreet, but then lose most of your passing trade.

This is Brexit.
Good God.

I just logged onto this thread for the first time in a couple of day. Really funny reading backwards up the thread to find out what the recent conversation was about.

I was convinced that a mod had accidentally shifted a lump of posts from the Preston Market Development thread that is live at the moment and I was getting more and more confused the further up the thread I got. Genuine LOL moment when I got back to raefil's post where I found out that the 'market' in question was NOT Preston market! (incidentally... it's still funny reading forwards... some quality posts there!)

You also believe that the Mini is built here because the Brits like them.....

And you also hold some rather weird views about Ireland which are based on fiction.......

I can't help it if you're too dim to understand data can I?

Well I have given you examples how successfully Companies trade both in the EU and aboard under WTO rules, and critically do so to make a profit, Are you one of these ‘starry eyed people’ who think firms employ people has a form of social security, if so you are living in dream land.

And also how the 'Trusted Trader' scheme DOES work (which I have experience on)

Also there is more than me who thinks the Republic and the Nationalists (IRA) think they ARE using this to their political advantage, why do you think the DUP are so against it?

So it looks like we are both 'DIM' together then doesn't it

Heres a good question for you.

When did we last vote anyone in at the WTO to make rules we have to follow?

But the market landlords are giving some of your profits to other stall holders when yours needs fixing.

It guarding the pie factory.

This is exactly the issue. Lots of Brexiteers actually do resent this.

Ignoring the fact that the market stall is making thousands out of its collaborative position... and instead moaning that some of our rent goes to improve stalls elsewhere. It doesn't seem to fit well with the socialist morals that many profess to have!

Anyway... is it better for us to hog our own little pie, and prevent others from nibbling away at the crusts - and keep our neighbours at arms' length... curtains closed, doors locked - or better to have a big share of a huge pie, be part of our local community... rather than ignoring them and trying to buddy up with people from miles and miles away?

Good God.

HUM 10 Billion a year NET coming out of OUR pockets is considerably more than a 'tenner' a week methinks

And that’s before you take into account all the internal meddling those self appointed EU bureaucrats do to our system of Democracy

Has a fully fledged member of the WTO we would have the same right as others to voice our opinions

THE CRUTUAL difference is the WTO is set up to facilitate World Trade (the clue is in the title)
The EU is a protectionist Organisation that seeks to prevent free trade from outside the EU

Of course it is all about more than that, France, Italy and Germany once thought they could militarily rule the world (Dictatorships), now they are trying to exert undue influence in another way

The EU of course is protectionist. It was set up in part so European countries didn't have to drop their pants to do trade with the US something we are about to experience again for the first time in 40 years apart from this time China, Japan (who have stalled on talks with the UK because they expect to get better terms with the UK than they have just signed with the EU - totally winning here aren't we?) and as we are seeing, the EU themselves will also demand we bend over. Also you think the EU being protectionist is bad? I'd hold off until our guys come back from the trade talks with the US until you pass judgment on that because I fear we will find out just how much protection we needed from them.

PS despite what you think, the WTO is shite. It is like running a business of terms you have downloaded from google. It is a template nothing more nothing less. This article gives a decent overview but it only scratches the surface. https://ukandeu.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/What-would-trading-on-WTO-terms-mean.pdf

Oh and finally, we gave the world the British Empire. We are in no position to call out France and Italy for wanting to rule the world (how fucking long ago are we going back here by the way) and Germany is a country we could learn a lot from and nothing like the country of the 30's and 40's.

I understand P&L perfectly well tyvm and also the reality of employing people. I also understand the Trusted Trader Scheme and that simply keeps goods flowing, it does not obviate the need to levy tariffs under WTO. You have chosen to ignore the impact of tariffs which was the point I was making to you. Clearly you either don't want to engage with the reality of tariffs or it was all too complicated for you. The idea that some random bloke from PNEOnline might understand the impact of tariffs better than the CEOs and senior staff of companies such as Toyota and Nissan and BMW and Honda seems a little far fetched. They're clear about the negative impact. If you take the example of the Mini, many components for each car cross in and out of the Uk multiple times before they become part of the finished vehicle. Each time they cross in/out of the EU they will generate a tariff of 4.5%...those are the rules. Why would a company that is there to make a profit want to increase it's production costs and lower the profit margin eh?

As to your understanding of the Irish question, we have already established that you know fuck all and you still persist in labelling all nationalists the IRA. Give your empty head a wobble will you? The DUP opposed the GFA in the first place, theyre a bunch of terrorist supporting, creationist nutjobs who do not represent the majority of the population of NI. They are happy to have different rules in NI when it suits them, yet kick off about the backstop which is supported by a majority of NI citizens and NI businesses.

A lot of head burying in sand with this post ;)
