And I understand your point aswell but as we seem to agree that utilities companies shouldn't be handing out billions in share divis ( a small proportion of which in fairness goes to pension funds for the plebs but not much)...It defeats the object...Essential services should be provided by those that we can control by getting rid of ( governments ) in my view.

As for the enormous food retailers, maybe the " happy medium " is the return to the corner shop? Maybe not ?.... :)

I m right with you fella.

And slowly but surely the batteries capacity diminishes etc etc................ And I doubt your phone would get you to work..........

Joking aside I don't know too much about the technology but I do know that you have to do a bit of homework as to where you can charge up and be very careful as to how far you travel.... For some strange reason ( based on nothing ) I have a feeling that the electric car will go the same way as what we were told was marvelous..Deisel...

I ve mentioned before that the installation of charge points on every new dwelling is now a stipulation on our planning applications.

That just leaves the existing stock to deal with ............

Out of interest are solar panels the same?

Its going to be a major problem though, I have a fast charging phone and its still in hours rather than minutes for a full from empty charge.
Fast charging stations use DC rather than AC, which makes them much faster - at the moment, about 10 minutes for 100 kilometres. The holy grail is about 300 miles range and 15 minutes for charging. Drivers should be taking a break after four hours anyway, IMO.

That said, you and Libs make very fair points - electric vehicles will probably fill the market for people needing to make small trips and commutes in and around cities. Longer distances do still pose some problems, especially for commercial vehicles. Still a lot of work to do, although I am optimistic about the future of the technology.

Might take a while then ?.....

Waitrose trucks run on recycled cooking oil

a quick double check, they actually run on renewable biomethane gas – a by-product of rotting vegetables
I love Ocado they are the best for my dietary choice. Just hate that I feel like a Tory everytime i order from them

Yet, weirdly, the John Lewis business model is very socialist in its manner.

Well , that’s down to the house owner mate . If electric vehicles really take off ( not literally) then it’s relatively cheap and easy to get a charging point fitted.

Apartments and remote ( outside of curtilage) parking remains a challenge.

There’ll come a time when you remove a briefcase size power pack from your vehicle and take that into the house to charge. Coded - it will secure the battery free vehicle as well.
