Actually they aren't because our " free society " is just a bloody illusion..... Our " society " is absolutely not democratic although most believe it is.

What's the difference between:

1... Lying and conning the population into conformity?

and

2... Holding a gun to your head and forcing you to conform?

I'd say it's very little because the outcome is just the same..The vast majority conform. It's very clever / simple and the ruling classes have been at it for centuries and these days they don't even hide it because the tavtics are that well honed.

I absolutely agree and with the dawn of social media ‘shaming’ they can get pretty much anybody to conform.

Russia never became what the two main competing idealists (Lennin and the other one who got an ice pick in his head) wanted or hoped it would. Instead it became effectively just another dictatorship, like Hitler's 'socialist' Reich. Pure socialism was supposed to do away with money (paper and coin that can be accumulated by cunning capitalists) causing the never ending cycle of employment and unemployment, when the ruling/upper class had all the money in their possession (and the means of production) and the poor workers were literally in dire poverty.

It's not an illusion. You are free to come and go (Habeus corpus) as you please. You can't just disappear (for instance) like you can in Russia, or China. It's not perfect, nothing ever is or ever will be but it's the best we can hope for (in the broad sense).

Completely different world now thats no longer a simplistic capitalism vs socialism mindset. You may find many tories now increasingly aligned with Putin values and seduced by his power and wealth. Its a different dangerous new world to consider now.

It is an illusion..... Look what happened when they locked down...it was sooo easy...... And a democracy shouldn't be a two party system. The bit in bold is true although when you replace dictator with civil servant then you most certainly could be.. The same civil servants that you accept run the Country.

Im afraid the tories own you if you think the multi nationals and the tories are not one and the same. Frighteningly easy exploitation. You've said so but you're not actually a socialist, not in the true, pure sense of Marx's ideology. You mean you're sympathy lies with the working class (the workers) right ? So does mine, but that doesn't mean I hate everyone with more money than me, or who might obviously have more privilege.

My sympathy does lie with working classes. I don’t care who has more it’s those that have way too much that I despise and the tories put them above all else. They scream about benefit claimants whilst turning a blind eye to the greedy barsteward tax dodgers, hell they even tax dodge themselves and they laugh whilst demonising and putting others in poverty.
