Homophobia in football

I have Trypanophobia. I apologise for this.

I'm not sure why 'phobia' is used in the context of someone who hates gay people. As in your case, a phobia is a fear, often irrational, of a certain thing. Are we saying that people who are homophobic - or Islamophobic - can't help it? Would 'anti-gay' be more accurate? This article argues that 'phobia' is the right word, as the hate is usually based on fear. I'm not convinced.

That’s a very good point.... I think that you are correct “ anti “ would probably be a better terminology than “ Phobia “

Schemer makes a good point there and is something I said on a separate forum years ago. Phobia is a fear of not an opposition to.
