With less than 6 weeks to go to Jan 1st and the obvious need for defensive left sided reinforcements, even more so whilst in a fantastic position, it's time to start the overdrive on this particular topic.

I've heard nothing myself, be it Incoming or Outgoing.

Contract Renewals is another key area, thinking Browne, Whiteman and Woodman in the main. Ched? See how his season goes, same for Riis. Not really sure who is OoC at other clubs in the summer of 2024 who would be worth a cheeky bid for in January. Millar is the obvious one to bid for and sign up pronto. Is he OoC in 24 or 25?

Keen for input from @Sedge_Fan and the others with their ears firmly on the "inside".

2 Out (Bauer and A. N. Other)
2 In is my shout, 3 at a push.

The summary transfer thread for this window can be found here..

Looking at the contract renewals side of things - the following first team players are OOC in June from what I understand:

- Patrick Bauer
- Greg Cunningham
- Andrew Hughes
- Alan Browne
- Ben Whiteman
- Ben Woodburn
- Ched Evans

Another opportunity to improve our defensive ranks for sure - Woodburn will probably get a lifetime extension and Ched is a real unknown - see how he goes.

Browne and Whiteman integral!

Opportunity to get some new defenders in our ranks I think this January :)

Think Greg’s contract expires in the next couple of months, doesn’t it? He only signed a six month one in the summer

Go aggressively after upgrades at right centre back, left wing back and -as much as I like Hughes- we need a dependable LCB who can stay fit.

Hit those with the same success we've had with our forward recruitment and we've got a real chance of challenging for the play-offs.

Storey-Lindsay-Hughes/Cunnigham Injury Replacement have proven to be a bottom half unit over multiple seasons, and all 3 positions can be improved upon.

Since the 750k for Storey have we actually spent any notable cash on a central defender?

The out-of-contract players you imagine will certainly be gone at the end of the season are Bauer, Woodburn, Cunningham and Hughes. Very likely Evans too - extending his contract again would probably be pushing our luck a bit too much. Brady will still have a year left on his deal but if we could somehow move him on that would probably be to everyone's benefit. It is difficult to see how any of that might happen in January other than with Bauer and Woodburn so the real turnover and remodelling of the squad is likely to be next summer. But if we make just one signing in January even on loan then a left-footed left wing-back would be my priority - Millar looked totally out-of-place in that position in the last match and needs to be played more centrally.

I'd only renew Browne, whiteman and Hughes. I'd leave it until later in the season to assess Ched but the rest can go.

I'd keep Hughes, when fit he's more than good enough for this level and if you're able to rotate him with Best it should help ease his injury issues.

Bauer & Whiteman it becoming apparent he want more money than we are prepared to pay .
I still think our midfield needs improvement & a new left sided CB
To me Whiteman is overrated . We need a Greagan sort of player.
Best should be 1st choice for me

I thought he was extended until the end of the season?

As much as I like Greg, the five games he played prior to his latest injury, we lost 4 and drew the other. I think it’s now time to wish him the best elsewhere.

Best as first choice left centre-back with Hughes as experienced cover looks decent enough for the rest of this season and maybe next as well but it would depend on Hughes' fitness.

It recently got auto extended to the end of the season after he met targets on his fitness & availability

I know - good player. Think we were linked in January where we sold Davies to Liverpool but I guess the ship has sailed on that chance.

I'd offer Ched a rolling 'Six-Monther', just to keep the guy's interest & commitment levels up and tie that in with his medicals. If he's seriously down any path of Trainer,Coaching, eventually Management things I'd like them to happen , or at the very least begin with PNE.

I just don't see how they don't renew Hughes' contract. If they see Best as the future then they won't be wanting to spend money going out looking for a LCB to be back up when we have Hughes already.
