Lord Edgingtons "Get Rich Slowly" Stocks and shares bonanza

I'm trying to sell them LiS ... I want rid and it's a bloody nightmare.. I had a real person on the phone this morning but not a rep of " Link " ... just a third party. If I can eventually shift these shares I certainly won't be getting involved again but thanks for taking the time to advise.

Are they regulated by any industry body you can approach, is it just one particular companies shares or a bunch of companies but one broker that has become the issue?

It's " Link " ...They represent a large number of companies ... My shares are Volex who have no interest in their own shares.. Mad innit? :)

If they really are being a pain then maybe doing something like LiS suggests and get them to transfer the shares to another broker and then you trade them out of there yourself possibly. Hassle and not what you want but if someone like Hargreaves/AJ Bell can take the burden of extricating them Link at least. Also the £50 a trade fee seems ridiculous if that's what Link charge

At the very least, I'd ask Hargreaves Lansdown or AJ Bell for advice. If you open an account with them, they might handle the transfer for you.

This is a genuine post on an investment forum from a nob head that really pisses me off. He makes Rees Smog seem left wing!

I think we can all take comfort in the fact that, as participants in investment, price discovery and free markets, we're all playing a part in a system that reduces poverty, increases health, democracy and education, and tends to move towards egalitarianism.

Even the fact that, as societies enter the middle classes, they become more likely to keep dogs as pets than eat them

Half way there thanks Jake.... They insisted on me sending my original grant of probate ( rather than the certified solicitors copy) which I wasn't happy about and of course the worst happened and it wasn't returned... They sent me a letter accepting my claim therefore they definately have it....... After numerous calls they are telling me there is a 6 week delay ( covid ) in their probate office and it will be a while before they can return it ( load of bollocks if you ask me )... I'm currently waiting for a specific form through the post in order to sell them.... It's a farce but the last person I spoke to was as helpful as all the rest put together so fingers crossed we can proceed as soon as we receive it...I'll let you know and thanks again for asking. Appreciate it.

That's very poor given the importance of the paperwork (and the sensitivity of the issues even moreso). Glad they finally found someone who could help you a bit at least.

Tell me about it , they don't give a shit but on balance there have been a couple of companies that have been bloody marvelous and seemed to have specialist bereavement advisors...... Coventry Building Society and Legal and General couldn't have been more helpful. Free plug because they deserve it. :)

Bit like insurance companies that you never actually find out how useless they are until you have to use them and need them to be any good at that point.

I’d never heard of Link until you’d talked about them and had looked into them when you were posting the other week. Turns out the people who own where I work are looking at buying them too, hope they don’t make us work with them if they are that crap!

I think I told you but the first call I made was answered at a " call centre " who were presumably just sat there with a list of rules from a host of other companies they represent. No empathy, no nowt. During a bereavement all you want is someone to listen and to offer advice... Link have the very basics completely wrong imho......... No doubt they turn a good profit though which would be helped by outsourcing.

I am sure they are also reducing poverty and increasing egalitarianism

Separately - is it ethical to invest in a fund in the Space sector? I have misgivings about man littering the sky with stuff.

I do suspect it’s a sector that will make financial returns.

One of those days to watch things through your fingers. The markets don't like that variant

It's important to sit tight and do nothing when prices are falling everywhere. If anything, if you're thinking about putting money into the stock market, it could be a good time to buy next week if prices continue to fall. It's important to think of it long term because prices could easily fall further.

Jake have you still got those mining company shares how have they been doing for you ?

Bloody awful!

Mosman might have legs and is only down a bit, Caerus I think is dependent on some good news and is down a bit further whereas Oriole is really in the gutter.

I'm just leaving them to run now in the vain hope they come back but I think that's the last time I dip into mining. Luckily they were only smaller bets. Need to pay more attention to some other sectors for a play and stick with the boring Funds and Indexes elsewhere for thebulk of it now. Lessons learned

Well junior miners are a risky game I work in the industry and I'm very cautious and only get involved where I have good knowledge of the company managers and their operations/prospects

It's a mugs game investing in individual stocks imo. For that reason I stick to investment trusts.
