Preston North End v Derby County
Wednesday 1st July 2020 , Kick Off 5PM - Championship (Sky Sports Football)
5000th League Game
Match Preview: From The Finney -
An independent, fan-run website on Preston North End website.

It's a must-win.

Hoping for an early penalty to settle us down.

Are we the first club in world football to reach 5000 league games? Or just UK?

It’s a bitter sweet moment really in terms of reaching our 5000th game. As AN pointed out if we hadn’t spent 60 years out of the top flight then we wouldn’t have been the first to get there.....it’s therefore more of a celebration of the resilience of our support for me.

A chance tonight to get the season back on the rails. Hopefully a 5000th game we remember for the right reasons.
Our record against Derby recently is dire. We have just 1 win in the last 21 regular league games (excluding play offs) so maybe the law of averages will start to rebalance tonight despite our recent poor form. Strong, confident start is important.

huge game and an incredible record. Hope Sky do the record justice and don't spend an hour talking about Derby and Wayne Rooney

Sky coverage starts........
Wayne Rooney Wayne Rooney Wayne Rooney Wayne Rooney Wayne Rooney Derby County Derby County Derby County Derby County 10 seconds to adverts break......
Oh and Preston are 7th.
Hope the lads make them eat their words!!!

Hope everyone makes sure they thank our sponsors for paying Rooney's wages.

£50,000 a week.

Just looked on the BBC website sport page. Obviously no mention of North Ends historic game, but plenty about the Royals doing a dustbin challenge and a piece on how to do a handstand. How p.c. and shite are the BBC.?

If they start banging on about Rooney excessively I'll be pressing the mute button.
Cheated the financial rules to sign him and I hope it comes back to bite them.
The best way to counter it though is to beat them.

If the sponsors pay Rooneys wages why does 3rd party ownership not come into question or this this just another FFP loophole?

There is also the question of the ground sale to one of the owners companies at an inflated price (or something along those lines). They do have a hearing pending and hopefully robust action taken but that remains to be seen. There was talk of a points deduction but we'll all believe it when we see it.

We've won none of their last 13 league matches against Derby (D4 L9), a run stretching back to the 2009-10 season.

Our last win was Boxing Day 2008 when SSL and Parkin scored, Kevin Friend was the ref.

Derby have conceded just one goal in their last eight league matches against us (W5 D3), a 90th minute Tom Barkhuizen strike in a 1-1 draw in March 2017.

We have lost four of their last five league games (D1), conceding at least twice in each defeat.

Derby have won their last four league games, last enjoying a longer winning run in December 2016 (seven consecutive wins).

No side has won more Championship points so far in 2020 than Derby (27), with the Rams also on the longest scoring run in the division, having found the net in each of their last 16 games.

No clean sheet at home in the last 16 games, and only 2 all season.

Last 12 match form guide - we're 11th, last 10 games we're 19th, last 8 we're 22nd. So we're getting worse...

Last 8 at home - W2, D1, L5

Derby last 8 away - W3, D2, L3

Ref - Jarred Gillett, the Aussie who did the Reading home game which we lost 2-0.

Nailed on home win.
