Just seen the assault by the Stoke number 11 on Pearson on EFL highlights.
Blatant red for me not only reckless as to injuring Pearson but his own player. Then to book Pearson for retaliation even though he didn’t get anywhere near the dickhead.

What an utterly pathetic comment.

It's a definite red but OP is out of order.

Don't know if retrospective bans can be given for violent conduct if the ref has already seen it but if so McClean is in trouble.

Obviously McLean deserved red for the assault. It really was premeditated, cowardly and dangerous. However, in reality, refs are much more likely to send off a player who mistimes a genuine tackle by a fraction of a second - or if a player harmlessly “raises his hand” in a little face-to face argument.

Pearson deserved his yellow for his reaction - and was dicing with red. Don’t think there’s any way he’d have been booked for standing over the ball.

You're right, what McLean did was a red card. If Pearson was facing him and he slammed his arm/elbow into Pearson at the same height he would have been sent off for sure. A yellow for Pearson was right as well. The ref always evens it up in these situations. If he didn't then 5 minutes later Pearson would have tried to get his own back.
