Matchday Thread PNE v SPURS - 28/01/23 - KO:18:00 - FA Cup 4th Round

In truth we were embarrassingly poor. The pundits were talking like we are a non league side not a championship side. We had lost before we took to the pitch, just having ‘fight’ was the only prerequisite. We didn’t try to create fuck all. All we did was try to avoid embarrassment and in the minds of the current hierarchy 0-3 was just that. Laughable.

Did ok in the first half and defended well. Sadly, Lowe's main motive was to just defend and hope one of the many lumped balls would bounce back off someone's backside into the Spurs net.

Granted, there was of course a gulf in quality and Son is a class act. I would've liked to have seen us actually give it a go though but 1. Lowe was too spineless and 2. Some players quite clearly aren't up to the task.

I was proud after we were beaten 4-2 by Arsenal, proud after we were beaten by Man Utd - we actually gave it a real good go in those games and there's no shame in losing in that manner.

Tonight, our attacking play was just beyond pathetic.

I don't want to say too much which I might later regret, but I'm just so fed up of this club, the pathetic way it is run and the constant specialising in failure.

Oh well, at least the FA Cup cash can go towards paying off another shite signing!

I remember watching the match in a pub in Willesden Green with an Italian football fan. I hadn't long been back in the UK after living overseas, for some years. I had no interest in North End for a decade, living overseas, no computers or internet, just an occasional English out of date newspaper.

My daughters got me back into the club by coming to London one cold wet winter night and dragging me off to Roots Hall to watch us play Southend. Kidnapped and forced by 2 obsessed daughters who were determined to get me back into the fold.

I then became a Nobber again, although only once visiting Preston in 20 years, watching North End in London games and games in the south. So the game v Arsenal was televised, and I got the local landlord to stream it on TV, we had not long completed the BSK, so we had the STFs and the BSK finished, and the ground looked great from the cameras, somewhere on the Pavilion, remember the Italian saying fantastic ground for a 2nd tier team, he could only see the 2 sides and a bit of the Town End.

I was so proud that day, what a performance, a battling, fierce attack on the 'Mighty Arsenal', even in defeat magnificent.

Yesterday, what the fuck was that, compared to the Moyes team total shite, no attacking intent. This attacking, pressing game that Lowe promised disappeared somewhere last season.

Disappointed, the owners need to go asap.

Great atmosphere fans were Brilliant tonight
however we got what we expected having watched Ryan Lowes attacking football all season
Yes we restricted a top prem side first half in Lowes own words a near perfect performance
Yes we were beaten by two class goals from a world class player
And yes after the first goal we did have a go for 10 min
But our concerns are deeper than losing to a top premier league side

What stands out a mile is we are severely lacking in the quality of player to progress as a club
And we have a manager who is happy with a the performance by his team who did work hard but who never ever looked close to getting a goal
We see Blackpool Reading even Walsall having a real go... we are a better than Blackpool Reading & Walsall.....but do we?

So fed up with the lack of ambition shown by the owners of our great club and truly fed up.with a manager who's attitude to losing and being completely outplayed is all wrong summed up in his own words at end of every game when get beat...
He should listen to John Coleman...

The day I come off this pitch at Accrington being happy we have got beat is the day I hand my notice in

Ryan Lowe insisted he was “proud and pleased” with the attitude and application of his players, despite tasting a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup fourth round.

I’ll tell you what’s really eating away at me. This team has no fucking HEART. Like, none at all.

We’ve all seen lower league and even non league teams give it a real good go and even occasionally win against premier league opposition… teams who have much less quality in their squad, but a shit load of passion and determination,

Watching North End, we just look like a bunch of wimps and it really pisses me off. It pisses me off even more that every one of them is a fucking millionaire off the back of playing football, they ponce around like they’re superstars but at the end of the day, they’re shite.
👏🏻

Way I saw it aswell.

Absolute shite.

A few points on reflection:

I watched a bit of Accy v Leeds. We listened to Southampton v Lashers as we drove up and then Listened to Man Utd v Reading as we drove home.
Reading, by the account I heard had the same problems as us of getting out of their own half.
The top teams in the Prem are just a world apart from the rest of English football. The FA etc have allowed these teams to hoover up all the best young players into their academies (even letting them field a team in the League Cup) thus denying smaller clubs the chance of developing/selling/profiting from a good young player.
Tonight was the perfect example of what is wrong. A Championship team, haemorrhaging money, whose best young players have all been loanees from Premiership clubs finds itself without strikers as they are cup-tied etc.

Ryan Lowe said in one of his first interviews he would not criticise his players or get involved in negative comments. He seems to stick by this which I believe makes him look like he exists in dreamland. It seems to be his thing.

We have a midfield that is always afraid to get turned or beaten as they cannot expose our slow defence. Hence they don’t go tight and allow the opposition possession. Spurs did not have that worry. The quality of their defence allows their midfield to get amongst us. Do we have any better defensive options on the bench?

We went to enjoy the atmosphere and event as we had no delusions of winning. I am still more concerned about the Norwich game than last night. They were / are a bottom of the Premiership side and as such we should have done what Accrington did to Leeds and make them work for it at least. Could John Coleman, or anyone else do a better job, given the way PNE has been managed over the years?

Overall we have it a decent go but it was probably our worst and most deflating effort against a prem team.over the last 20 years or so This is no surprise as this is probably the worst team we've had to put out against one.

We aren't very good. We knew that. The game told us nothing.

That absolutely says it all, ive nicked that bit to use elsewhere, it should really make out leadership totally embarrased, in fact the whole set up at Accy should make them embarrased.
