Race riots in Leicester

surely its religiously motivated rather than race?
It can indeed be both at the same time merged within each other.

Hindu (India) - Muslim (Pakistan).

It depends whether one wants to downplay the situation (religion) or talk the real truth (race).

I understand fully why people hide behind the former, for many different reasons.

The historic links to all this go back centuries, all down to caste systems systems within the hindu religion and and complete opposing ideology in 2 massive asian religions.

Oer here weve seen the Hindu religion as a very peaceable and passive religion, indeed the vast vast majority of hindus are that, however over on the subcontinent hinduism can be far from that.

A thread worth reading

Perhaps the first thing I've seen to give some depth.

First of all, it seems the recent trouble would have happened regardless of the cricket match - blaming the cricket match is like saying the troubles in Northern Ireland wouldn't have happened without the Apprentice Boys marching near the Bogside in August 1969 - the ground work had been laid for hundreds of years.

That said the recent events have absolutely no place in the UK and if the heads of Leicestershire police fail to stamp this out they need removing from their posts.

This weekend a city wide stop and search order needs to be in place in Leicester - anyone not from the city needs to be told to leave - if they refuse they are arrested. Likewise no group of five or more to march/congregate in the city.

Apparently this has been going on for donkeys years..........Doesn't make it right of course but I do wonder why it hasn't made the headlines in the past?

Depends in what context you mean donkeys years. This Hindu group are behaving in a manner I've not come across in this country before and have certainly rattled the Muslim community in Leicester. The last time something like this happened was 2001 when Stoke City fans marched through Oldham and then that spread to Burnley & Bradford.

Although if it spreads to other places this time it will be large Muslim populations targeting small Hindu populations in retaliation.

With Preston being a prime example of this.

Do you live in Leicester? I'm relaying many comments from Leicester puddlians who remember it going back to their schooldays........ I've no idea, but it seems this is not new news although possibly convenient..

True, figures are a bit out of date but in 2011 Muslims outnumbered Hindus 5 to 1 in Preston. However, in Deepdale, a "multicultural area" it was 300 - 1. However, Indians outnumbered Asians 5 - 1; the vast majority of Muslims in Deepdale are Indian - the same ethnic make up as East Leicester.

If anything Deepdale possibly has fewer Hindus now than a decade ago - certainly a Hindu family I knew living there worked every hour they could to afford to move away.

I've been to Leicester once in 2002 - it was north ends dickheads day out so a few idiots got banning orders.

Yes, there's been Hindu/Muslim issues happening in Leicester for decades. Just like it's happened in Preston - I worked at the Royal mail for a bit and they had their own separate pool tables at opposite ends of the canteen and neither party crossed the invisible line in the middle.

The group of Hindus marching through Leicester are behaving in ways not seen in the UK before by Hindus and the police/government needs to stop it because we've enough shit going on without people importing problems from the Indian subcontinent.

Then they are all bloody stupid, it has gone on for donkeys years and a bit strange it hasn't been reported before.. Leicester folk seem to find it nothing out of the blue.. Are we in agreement?

No, we are not in agreement. What has happened in the past month or so is different to petty disagreements Muslims & Hindus have all the time. This RSS group, or whatever name they go by, will cause thousands of Muslims to riot in Leicester if they're allowed to continue their antics.

May I be ruthless?............. I really couldn't give a rats arse about about racist " browns " when it's only us white crackers that are racist........... There's a far bigger riot on the horizon and it's whether people can afford to actually live or not.... Leicester and their petty religious squabbles are really not important

This is an interesting insight from back in 2010. I was in the city, teaching in an inner city school about a decade before.
It confirms most of what I observed from time spent with the kids and speaking to parents.
Most of the established community, Muslim and Hindu had arrived via east Africa. Mostly Gujrati with a common language, more racial similarities than differences.
There was no sign of violence or even conflict, some comments lead me to believe that some of the hindu kids looked down slightly on some Muslim kids but that was it.
The whole city was pretty much as harmonious as you could imagine. A completely different feel to it than a northern town like Blackburn or Bradford from a race relations perspective.
I think the religious demographic has changed a bit since my time there.
The hypothesis that these tensions have been 'imported' have a lot of credence in my view
