Radio Lancs anti PNE ?

I switched this on Saturday around 4.15 expecting comms of some match with updates.

Instead I got a lass and some lads going on about Exeter scoring a goal and how they had missed it. This went on for a while. It was incredibly cringe.

Couple that with Simon Thomas doing a terrible job on Soccer Saturday every week. I'm struggling.

Anybody seen Thomas? Get to 4.40 and watch him. He gives up reading the scores and goes to two or three Premier League games constantly, ignoring EVERY SINGLE late goal and full time score from every league. And considering PNE are top, they never went to Deepdale except for the goals, yet went to Sheff Wed v Ipswich three times in the last 15 minutes. Odd all around.
I'd say that Soccer Saturday has marginally improved since the week 1 debacle. But still a fair way to go!

How much of her being given the presenter job, is BBC box ticking or genuine ability in presenting a sports program. I wonder how many applied?
It’s standard BBC protocol. If you’ve not noticed in this modern world.
I think we should leave the lass alone.
Ok not exactly Jeff Stelling level but shes someone’s daughter and her parents must be quite made up.

Hard act to follow is JS and we know it.

The old middle aged white brigade. Don’t know what you miss till it’s gone.

Listened to it on way home from Plymouth match, the ex pro’s chatting between themselves was fine, but the young lady presenter is cringeworthy with some of her comments, very amateurish, suppose you’ve got to start somewhere tho !

We were the featured match on DAB.

I don't know about them being anti PNE particularly but, what got up my nose last night listening to the post match programme, which lasts from 6 till 7; they announce that from seven o'clock they will be focusing on Burnley pre-match.
They then go on to talk about Burnley for the next fifteen to twenty minutes....................what is that all about? There's only another what, five clubs to discuss in the remaining 40 minutes. I ended up switching off. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Some strange editorial decisions going on; tuned in in the car on the way to the ground expecting some pre-match build-up, got live commentary of Morecambe v Liverpool's U21 side watched by two men and a dog.

North End, top of the fifth biggest league in Europe, best start in 90-odd years, almost ten times as many people in attendance?

But, yeah, BBC go Live with the Shrimps in a game not even their own fans cared about.

Bizarre. :(

You probably were on the wrong frequency. It was apparently live on 95.5, 103.9 and DAB digital radio. Nothing wrong with having the Morecambe live too as it is after all 'LOCAL' radio.

The Morecambe game was live on 104.5 FM .

I find the coverage is wider and much better than it used to be, though granted not everyone has a DAB digital radio. They only used to focus on away games but now they cover a lot more home games.

I agree, but not on Soccer Saturday.

There's been a clamour to get women involved in mens sport, be it punditry or commentary, yet it seems to be one way. Personally, whether it's men's or women's sport I'd rather have people who've competed in the sport at a high level themselves to present it. Men don't fully understand the women's game and vice versa.

It was interrupted once as they went over to the Turf as Ternent appeared to sack 3 defenders live on air. Or at least say they wouldn't play for the club again. Halcyon days.
Mark Winstanley, the other 2 names I forget.

Sure all 3 were defenders.

The thing I remember most from it, personally, was that I shuddered and actually felt the fear of Stan come through the radio given the angry calm way he spoke. Wouldn't like to be on the wrong side of him.

Another Burnley live interruption was when King Kurt (not the band, the player) phoned in live because he was getting stick for asking for a pay rise as Top Scorer, former Liverpool interest, etc.

He said he was on, iirc, £800pw and he was asking for £1k pw. We then a few weeks later nipped in and signed him. League One wages at the time.

Yeah they were different days mate. Remember King Kurt ringing in as clear as day. I also remember Gary Peters defending him after an incident in the Maharahja where things got a bit sticky after they'd tried to throw him out after falling asleep in his Curry. Peters' opinion was that he'd be equally upset if someone woke him up when he was asleep. The type of manager you want whatever your business is!!

One of the other defenders was Steve Blatherwick for definite I think

Bumped into Tony Ellis (Grey Horse from memory) around the time he was moving to Blackpool and had a similar conversation around wages and 800 nicker a week is what he was quoting. Think we offered him 2 years and Blackpool 3 and he'd just had a kid so was a no brainer from a family point of view

Long time ago but broadly this is what I remember

I remember that vividly. It also reminds me of my finest contribution to the north end cause at deepdale.
Stood on the pavillion just behind Stan in the Burnley dug out.
The ball came over to the Burnley right back, young inexperienced lad- cant recall his name. I shouted out leave it and he did. Went for our throw which we scored from. The lads head completely went, o think he gave away at least 1 more goal and was subbed early.
We won the game 4-1, I think.
Stan got the most relentless ribbing right until the final whistle. 'Thanks for the laughs Stan', 'are you here every week stan?'
I never got any thanks.

I've shouted "KEEPER'S!!!" and seen defenders duck out of the way more than once.

Never claimed an assist yet though!
