Declan Rudd Retires From Football

Preston North End can regrettably confirm that Declan Rudd has had to retire from football due to a knee injury.

Kind of expected this due to some of the mumblings on this forum, but extremely sad nonetheless. Rudd gave his all and was a great keeper for us. Addressing the GK spot next season with quality is now vital as we could end up with 3/4 completely new goalkeepers.

real shame for him, he was a decent championship keeper, not on the level as some of the other keepers we've had over the years (Pickford, Johnstone, Iversen) but someone you could always rely on, he runs a kids coaching company down in Norwich called Future Football Elite, so at least he has something to fall back on and keep him involved in football

Poor guy. At least he’s invested in lots of non football things that means he’ll have an interesting career with his football academy and restaurant businesses! Always seemed like a genuinely nice person too.

I wonder if this does leave us more likely to retain Matt Hudson as 3rd choice keeper just for some sort of continuity.
