Sack him now (contd).

Not even remotely. As is clear by the level that Grayson finds himself managing at. Grayson is a League One manager at best.

Neil will get his next Championship team promoted.
He will yes, does not mean he will make a success of it though.

He inherited the strongest squad we've had in years and royaly made a mess of it.

Opinions vary, which is great. But give me SG any day over what we've witnessed under AN.

This. Grayson laid all the foundation for Neil’s 7th place finish.

I’d also put Irvine above Neil too, the improvement we made under him was rapid.
Most definitely correct
Neil inherited a good squad built by grayson thats why we finished 7th that season because the squad was already there and so was the team spirit.
Year on year since Neils take over weve got worse not better so how people can say otherwise is daft. Yeah we've sold players but also did that under grayson and every other manager.
He can't build team spirit its as simple as that

He inherited that strongest squad and took us to 7th place

He has since had that squad dismantled without adequate replacement. So it’s Graysons skill as a manager building a team that Neil can be successful with, but when that team gets sold without replacement, that’s Neil’s fault?

I disagree.

I think Simon Grayson did more for this club than Alex Neil. Not only results, but signings and player development.

AN benefited massively from inheriting SG squad.

For me, Grayson > Neil.
Neil certainly did benefit from the squad he inherited from Grayson. However, if Grayson had stayed with us I don't think we would have been anywhere near the top 6.

Neil was able to take the players forward a level, I've no doubt about that. But like most managers in modern football, the manager and club become stale. It's been nearly 4 years for Neil in charge, that's a quite a long time in modern football. A change is badly needed.

Neil will go elsewhere and do a good job for a few seasons, maybe get a side promoted. But he'll go stale again and their fans will have the same issues as we have and Norwich fans had with him.

Phil Brown is and was a Charlatan. He was an older manager past his prime when he took us over. Neil isn't even 40 yet. That's the difference.

Neil will manage a bigger team than us in the future. Maybe no immediately, but I'd put money on him making it to the Premier League before we do.
I'd put money on Salford City making it to the Prem before we do :ROFLMAO: I'll probably be dead before it happens though!!

I think it's interesting that he also inherited a (much) strong(er) squad at Norwich, and won promotion with it by finishing off the season from January - so a quick, short-term impact - but was then unable to take it on longer term.

I think AN may become one of those specialist troubleshooter-type managers in time - bring him into an under-performing top-end club around January-time with a decent squad already in place, and see if he can drag it over the line.

Which players are you referring to?

As I've said previously, I have sympathy for AN this season, and yes the squad has had too much churn.

However my opinion on AN is based on last year. We had our strongest squad for a long time (majority signed by SG). Since December 2019 / January 2020 we have been abysmal. I don't see, nor have I ever with AN any real player attraction and development.

I saw a lot of it with SG and that's why I would chose SG over AN.

Cunningham, Hugill, Robinson. 3 of the best players in that squad who were sold without a good enough replacement. The closest we’ve got is Evans but he’s not as good as Hugill and brought in 2 years later

We replaced Greg with an older version of Greg

Its the vision and the lack of good planning that has seen us get into this awful mess. The foresight has been ill-judged and amateurish. A new manager would have to be made some proper assurances. He needs to know exactly where he stands and what he has to work with.

AN has had the carpet pulled from under him and will feel very let down. I dont appreciate a lot of his recent comments about new players needing to adapt to his style. We had others who know the script albeit lesser players in Bayliss and Stockley. The Gordon signing stinks above all the rest, I was very sceptical about it and its been proven to be a disaster. Still not feeling the Whiteman signing although he could be getting dragged down with all the rest of the crap at our disposal.
If AN goes I would want PR to follow. He has been the man behind all the recent activity, he has run his course with us, time now to go and mess up another club.

And yet when they are taken out of the team, Neil is blamed for the down turn in performances

That’s the point I’m making
OK maybe there has been crossed wires here.

My post was about who I believe to have been a better manager for PNE. My argument was for SG.

I wasn't referring to the shortfalls of this season and the reasons for AN to be sacked.

But I see many more tangible plus points from the SG era than I do under the AN era, under the same ownership.

I agree with this.

Not massively into stats but it seemed to me that when AN took over the vast majority of the regulars were Graysons signings for quite a fair period of time.

I think he's a better Championship manager than SG but I honestly don't think he will but time will tell I suppose.

Look at the squad and where they have come from previously. Oxford, Peterborough, Barnsley, Doncaster, Exeter, cork city etc etc then made up with loans with no affinity to the club and 2 of those under 20!, a very average centre half who can’t get in a fellow champ side.

look at what we are competing against in the league. Teams around us and below us have spent an awful lot more money.

this runs way deeper than AN and changing him will make no difference.

a change now is risky at best. A team low on confidence with 3 of the hardest games of the season coming up with a caretaker manager.

it’s got disastrous written all over it.

All day long. 👍

If he wasn’t at Fleetwood, I’d have him back to the end of the season in a flash - then take it from there.

As it is, if we’re looking at Gally, I’d get Gary Peters in to help him out and offer an experienced viewpoint.
