Scott Laird has been reunited with manager Graham Westley after agreeing to join from July 1st following the expiration of his contract at Stevenage.
The 24-year-old turned down a new deal at the Lamex Stadium, along with a number of Championship suitors, to agree to sign a two-year deal at Deepdale from the start of July.
Laird has been a mainstay of the Boro side at left back since converting a loan spell from Plymouth to a permanent move in 2008 and has since gone on to make over 200 appearances, scoring over 20 goals.
This season alone, as his side reached the League One Play-Offs, the Somerset-born defender made over 50 starts and scored nine goals from full back and will be hoping to add both those defensive and attacking abilities to the PNE squad.
Speaking about his move Laird said: "When Graham showed a bit of interest and wanted to bring me here I was chuffed. I had already made my mind up to come to Preston. It is steeped in history and even looking around the ground it is an amazing facility."
Chairman of football Peter Ridsdale was delighted to be able to announce the Club's eighth summer signing, joining John Welsh, Nicky Wroe, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, David Buchanan, Paul Huntington, David Amoo and Richard Wright in the revolution.
He said: "Scott has been courted by a lot of clubs this summer after a superb season at Stevenage and I think it shows our ambition that he has chosen to come to Deepdale.
"It also shows that players who are committed to working hard and giving their all for our manager want to play for him and know that he can bring success to wherever he is and we look forward to seeing Scott as part of a successful Graham Westley Preston North End team."
