Summer 2022 : Transfer Window Rumours and Discussion

My only concern with the players we are getting linked with (with the exception of Woodman) - Gray, Christie etc is it’s very much like the Irvine days where we signed a lot of older professionals with little to no sell on value at the end of their contracts.

Yes! We need more Harrop's, Bayliss's and more... um, what was that frail looking RWB called? American I think?

Would you want to come and play for a Manager with the passion of Lowe? I know I would have felt good about what lies ahead with a guy like this at the helm. Ambitious and passionate, great qualities for a guy deciding his next move to consider.
Interesting that it’s the same man who recruited previous less charismatic types has now brought Lowe in within a week of the previous incumbent. Tin hat time, but I’m pleased with Riddlers fast move to secure a talent like Lowe

Absolutely true. But you do wonder whether we’d have forged ahead with those kinds of signings had Lowe been at the helm at the time.
Last summer I think if it hadn't of been Frankie, we'd of sourced another guy willing to undertake a head coach type role. I think Riddler was enjoying having a patsy in charge of coaching.

We ended up with Lowe in December (and a return to a "manager" tag) once Riddler & Craig realised the pitchforks would be out for them if radical changes didn't come.

This summer we've got rid of millions of pounds of the wage bill. So, we certainly should have a lot of room to play with financially. I'd certainly hope next January we won't be hearing about "cost neutrality" again.

I'd also hope that our newly "opened eyes" and "shackles off" approach, might see us re-examine other areas of our infrastructure that we've previously equally neglected, and loudly defended as sound strategic decision making.

You also have to wonder if we would be wanting to bring in the players we are hoping to sign and bring in on loan if TH was still at the helm?

It just shows how badly our resources were managed though, doesn't it? If we can release players like Rafferty and replace him in the squad with Christie, afford to spend upwards of £20k a week (I'm guessing) on a proven top Championship forward and be looking to bring in a quality goalkeeper on a permanent deal. Three genuine quality additions like that, and then fans won't mind if we also take a risk on a League Two LWB/LM as long as they've been scouted properly and chosen by the Manager that we might make a profit on in future.

Last year we probably paid out over £2.5m in wages on Sinclair, Murphy, Harrop and Bayliss. Who barely kicked a ball for most of the season. Throw in all the other riff raff who barely contributed, a total of £5m+ of our budget may as well have not been here.

I don't think our wage budget has been the biggest problem since we got promoted from L1. It's been the absolute wasters we've repeatedly handed out deals to.

Collectively from top to bottom I don't think there's been a strategy or converted drive to achieve anything much at all. We can only hope that mindset has now changed. Permanently.

Whether it's the Hemmings clan suddenly finding the gumption to push us to the top six, or just a willingness to make us a viable operation that could tempt others to make a bid to buy the club.

Bit depressing if true

Hardly a surprise though.

Sold over 28,000 season tickets. Revenue from commercial, TV and season tickets will be substantially higher than ours next season. Even whilst they were in League One in 2021, and had no parachute money, their turnover of £10.7m was about £130k more than ours despite being in a different league.

Big club really. I won't even mention the man in charge there but Iversen has done his time here. What more does he have to prove? Player of the season across the board and over 70 games for the club in the 18 months he was here. Time he challenges himself elsewhere unfortunately for us.

Though I'd be cautious about the tweet origins. Not sure he's entirely legit.

Not sure if this is a genuine account, but today he's getting pelters for revealing Joe Wildsmith (one of my picks for back-up keeper) had been offered a new contract by Sheffield Weds. They did that two months ago.

I was about to say, I think it’s a fake account. Not worried about Iversen going to another Championship club.

Leicester wouldn’t want to loan him out to the same division again and if they were open to selling I can’t see any Championship club splashing 5+ million on a goalkeeper.

I wondered about a fake account, but he’s also got 1200 followers so not your usual fake

Yeah the mention of "TalkSport" in the bio does give him a bit of leeway for being hopelessly wrong.

I don't really get the 'I can't see a championship club splashing 5+ million on a goalkeeper'. Goalies like Iversen could save 20 goals a season for a team & if a striker scored 20 goals a season, they would definitely be worth £5 million or maybe double that.

Plus until now, we have also been paying three managers. So with all the players leaving OoC, no longer paying AN and FM, and with the Three Amigos set for transfer we have realistically freed up circa £7million from our wage bill. Add to that all the early season ticket sales and there's quite a tidy budget there to play with...

Think Leicester are looking for about 10m for him now. It was 7m asking price last summer
