That Trump fella.

How can the world allow this? He’s doing it almost every day, and this is another little example. This is a top world leader. The content of the tweet is 100% fabrication (I checked). ANY qualified elector who’s live at least 28 days in their current district may vote in absentia - no other caveats.

Are the quote marks somehow supposed to protect him? How can the world allow it. He undermines democracy with every lie. Most of his supporters believe the election was rigged.

Even his opponents on Twitter are making weak excuses that the pandemic means people were effectively confined - when in fact there are no excuses needed! But is gullible tribe will see the excuses about the pandemic as contrived and underhand - strengthening their zeal further. Argghhhh

Because (a) Twitter can be a god-awful place, everyone's a publisher, straight from brain to screen with none of the traditional filters of PR team, communications advisors. And (b) Trump is a very odd man.

Also remember for a long time social media sites refused to accept that they were publishers, but merely a vehicle for other peoples' content. This is changing, but so much crap still gets through.

You’re right. But it’s a wider question. How do we stop this fashion for blatant, couldn’t-care-less attitude to lying.
Lies have always had their place in politics- but 20-30 years ago, politicians knew their job was on the line even if they deliberately told a simple lie, like the one in this tweet

They knew the big risk - or they used convoluted language, to give themselves a get-out. Which meant you would be alerted by the squirming. But how can you deal with a POTUS who will blatant make a statement of apparent clear fact, to mislead you? How do we believe anything?

Because there's no accountability and no consequences? Hari-Kiri no longer exists amongst political leaders. Every year that goes by when a leader doesn't fall on their sword or make a principled stand is another year where those coming up behind don't have that role model. So after a generation that way of operating has been flushed out of our systems? A cultural thing.

But saying that, were politicians ever honourable. Hasn't it always been veiled in spin and PR and reading the right papers. Social media just creates more of it, faster, and magnifies it.

But above all that, Trump is still uniquely strange.

Although, to counter that - yesterday Piers had Hancock squirming about the MPs pay rise, who was uncomfortable and grasping for that big hole to climb into, but today Shapps came on and just said he'll be giving any pay rise straight to his local charity. Fair enough.

They rely on us saying "there's the odd decent one"
Shapps has taken his 30 pieces of silver everytime it's been offered up until now (and I'd like to see the evidence he's following it through this time )

There are about 35 MPs that have gone on record saying they'll donate any pay rise to charities since 2015, 33 of them are Labour MPs, 25 of those Labour MPs belong to the SCG.

Everyone can draw their own conclusions from the above about who cares and puts their money where their mouths our and who is virtue signalling.

Did those Labour MPs follow through?

As I understand it, this event- whilst looking like an official enquiry or a court case, is in fact a showcase event arranged by Trump’s team, in a hotel conference room - not under oath.
I presume the idea is to create footage for Newsmax or OAA and for clips to put on social media that look like they come from a hearing. When they set it up, they must have hoped for better than that!

If anyone wants to waste a minute of their life, please can you summarise the allegation this guy is making? - and why it is so important that the POTUS tweeted it out to his followers?
(Edit - I just notice that it isn’t even a lazy retweet. He gone out of his way to create this tweet.
