Hey there. Blackpool FC fan here.
I've not seen much discussion on your message board about the ongoing court case in London between Valeri Belokon & Owen/Karl Oyston, and thought it deserved a separate thread.
Given what's at stake and the costs involved, this is likely to be the most expensive football case in UK history. It could also go a long way towards determining the fate of BFC.
I always believed Belokon was a 20% minority shareholder, although it has emerged that he is seeking a claim up to 50%, based on what he believes to be a gentleman's agreement with Owen Oyston.
I'm following the events in London with keen interest. Ten days into a 6-week case, I have already formed a view of how the case is proceeding, but obviously my opinion is very much biased where BFC & the Oyston family are concerned.
I was wondering if the more reasonable minded posters of this site, especially those with a legal background, would take the time to read the (lengthy) court reports from days 1 to 10, and comment back on this thread. They also give the reader a unique, fly-on-the-wall style access to the inner dealings of a football club.
The main players are:
Mr Justice Marcus Smith (Judge);
Valeri Belokon (VB) - case petitioner and Latvian minority shareholder in BFC;
Owen Oyston (OO) & Karl Oyston (KO) - case respondents;
Alan Steinfeld QC (SF) - OO Counsel;
Andrew Green (AG) - VB Counsel (from Clifford Chance);
Frazier Campbell (FC) - VB Counsel (from Clifford Chance);
Normunds Malnacs (NM) - VB employee, appointed BFC Director;
Karpars Varpins (KV) - VB employee, BFC Financial Director after NM;
Ian Cherry (IC) - Auditor of BFC and all Oyston businesses since 1989;
Rod Dyer (RD) - BFC Club Secretary;
Howard Belton (HB) - financial/tax advisor to OO for 30 years;
Anthony Dempsey (AD) - solicitor for OO & his businesses for many years;
Jim Rawlinson - ex-UK lawyer and OO advisor;
Rosemary Conlon - OO's secretary;
Peter Seddon - works for HMRC.
