And correctly so, its why the laws are there, whether it be indecency, pornography, libel etc etc.
With respect to indecency etc., I agree.

For libel - I am not a fan of the English libel laws or processes because they favour the wealthy and can be used to intimidate.

In the US and most other western countries, that photo would not have got near a courtroom because satire against politicians is protected.

We need to be able to poke fun at the powerful - of all political persuasions.

I will stress that I am purely talking about satire, comedy, music, and art here. That does not mean I am completely against libel laws - and had no issue with Jack Monroe going after Hopkins, for example.

It may, just, be satire, but the clown who posted it is no satirist. How dim did he have to be to fail to understand that actions always have consequences?
He is an idiot - but, should there be legal consequences for that? Many other people post bad taste satirical photoshops and memes, but don't face consequences.

Again, if I posted a similar picture against Netanyahu and he sued (for which I would have no choice but to pay up), would the outcry be the same?

Well he kept it out of the courts by paying Jezza's costs and paying damages which will go to charity. In an act of self flagellation/contrition he also decided to resign from the Tory Party and resume his duties as a Councillor as an Independent. He is a politician (of sorts) so he should hold himself to higher standards.

Im certainly no fan of Corbyn, but the criticism of him for taking action is way over the top IMO

It's whatever the currently (fashionable) influential intellectuals say it is, isn't it? Corbyn's arguably made a mistake by taking it too seriously, because doesn't that logically imply there could be a grain of truth in it. Then again, if he doesn't do anything, he's going to look like there is definitely some 'truth' in it.
It is probably what those who can afford extortionate legal fees say it is, to be honest.

I have no idea why he did it, to be honest - it was a pretty distasteful picture and very ill timed, to be fair, so I can understand why it pissed him off.

Out of the courts because he felt he would lose, or because he know that he risked his house even if he successfully defended it? That is very much my major point, although I believe that politicians should expect to be the targets of satire as US libel laws accept, for example.

I don't have a problem with his party disciplining him, or I wouldn't have a problem with whatever body covers the conduct of councillors asking him to explain himself.

My ire is more aimed at the legal system that allows such actions rather than at Corbyn, to be honest. As I said, would there be the same clamour if Donald Trump pursued someone for the same reason in an English court?

Its an interesting point and I would perhaps understand his point, if not agree, had he made the same points about what Rachel riley and Tracey Oberman did with similar people of limited means.
Ooohhh back on the Jews again.

What did they sue for? A satirical joke picture or a nasty written accusation that Riley is dangerous? An accusation that led to abuse, death threats and calls for her to be sacked.

We will have to agree to disagree. He knew the law, he knew the consequences and it's cost him.

The law undoubtedly needs amending (or at least how it's implemented/litigated does). However, as things stand, posting the satirical tweet wasn't the smartest move.
I believe that satire against public figures is usually protected in UK law (although not as strongly as in the US) - however, if they can use their wealth and power to circumvent such protections, then we have problems.

Again, I hope we all call out anybody posting similar photos of Boris Johnson as stupid and ill-informed. Wouldn't want to make this a partisan political point, after all.

Given that I despise Jezza almost as much as I hate Johnson........
