This corona virus thing...

I was just thinking that people in every country in the world have the same fears and concerns about the threat of this virus.
And for all the complaining people are doing about how this has been handled, I just feel incredibly fortunate to be here in the UK , can’t be many places better suited for dealing with this, horrendous potential for disaster in Iran, Pakistan and even the “have not” population of the good old US of A.

Obviously there are many people struggling here too in many ways, I have just got some supplies to a single mum who’s Universal Credit payment hasn’t been made and who has been trying since Monday morning to get through with no success . We just need to try and do what we can but it’s not easy when self isolating.

I’m a really positive person but I had a bit of a mental wobble yesterday evening, it’s the unknown I think .
My persona on here perhaps doesnt reveal how I am inside.

Truth?

Im scared. There Ive said it. :(

So is It only key workers that are allowed to go to work?

Technically if you can't work from home, yes should be only key workers going in. Reality seems something different still

Though the devil is always in the detail

Me too. I‘ve had a few cries, mainly when normal things aren’t normal. The school being virtually empty yesterday, the mass on Sunday in an empty church and the priest visibly struggling, the empty buses.

2. CLOSING NON-ESSENTIAL SHOPS AND PUBLIC SPACES Last week, the Government ordered certain businesses - including pubs, cinemas and theatres - to close. The Government is now extending this requirement to a further set of businesses and other venues, including: ● all non-essential retail stores - this will include clothing and electronics stores; hair, beauty and nail salons; and outdoor and indoor markets, excluding food markets. ● libraries, community centres, and youth centres. ● indoor and outdoor leisure facilities such as bowling alleys, arcades and soft play facilities. ● communal places within parks, such as playgrounds, sports courts and outdoor gyms. ● places of worship, except for funerals attended by immediate families. ● hotels, hostels, bed and breakfasts, campsites, caravan parks, and boarding houses for commercial/leisure use (excluding permanent residents and key workers). More detailed information can be found here, including a full list of those businesses and other venues that must close. Businesses and other venues not on this list may remain open. 3. STOPPING PUBLIC GATHERINGS To make sure people are staying at home and apart from each other, the Government is also stopping all public gatherings of more than two people. There are only two exceptions to this rule: ● where the gathering is of a group of people who live together - this means that a parent can, for example, take their children to the shops if there is no option to leave them at home. ● where the gathering is essential for work purposes - but workers should be trying to minimise all meetings and other gatherings in the workplace. In addition, the Government is stopping social events, including weddings, baptisms and other religious ceremonies. This will exclude funerals, which can be attended by immediate family. DELIVERING THESE NEW MEASURES These measures will reduce our day to day contact with other people. They are a vital part of our efforts to reduce the rate of transmission of coronavirus. Every citizen is instructed to comply with these new measures. The Government will therefore be ensuring the police and other relevant authorities have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings where people do not comply. They will initially last for the three weeks from 23 March, at which point the Government will look at them again and relax them if the evidence shows this is possible.

The Archdiocese of Toronto has cancelled all of them in every parish.

Me too Raef.... I am very scared.

it is very frightening and the people who are not taking it serious, need to wise up .....

it’s not just old and vulnerable people that are dying.

As it happens , I am in the “ at risk “ category, so I need to keep my wits about me....

Hat-Trick heroes are exempt.

And to add to even more confusion:

“Where people absolutely cannot work from home, they can still go to work. Indeed it’s important they do to keep the country running.”

Matt Hancock In the HoC

????????

I'm here, working from home, looking out the window, at the bloke 2 doors down who works in a fairly senior role at County Hall, with about 10 of his family rocking up in cars and hanging around on the front garden.

Cracking.
I seriously despair.

Theres too many, out there, that really think theyre immune from all this.

Why am I not surprised. Bloody unbelievable.

Sorry for quoting myself but..........

Is this clear?

They‘ve been cancelled here since last week but my church is still running services to an empty church - but streaming the service online.

Pretty much the same here but no live services. I believe the churches are open but no more than 50 are allowed to congregate. Archbishop Collins is celebrating Mass daily at St Michael's Cathedral, without attendees, and that is being streamed live.
