Maybe I've changed my mind. If she's embarrassed the government, she might get life after all :p
If embarrassing the government is a crime, Theresa May must be a candidate for multiple life sentences with no possibility of parole. :)

She broke the law. People can’t go chaining themselves to aircrafts no matter what the cause. It seems quite obvious she is guilty of “intentional disruption of services at an aerodrome” so was correctly charged and found guilty. The sentencing is another matter but I will bet anyone a pound to a penny she will not get life imprisonment. Hysterical reporting. If she does, I will join the outrage.
The point here is that they were charged under a law that has rarely been used. similar protests that have taken place, with the same impact, have not seen the perpetrators charged under an anti-terrorism law. I'd love to know why the CPS went down this route.

this article is quite interesting about it

Now we're getting to the nub of this story, rather than the tabloid carp about life in prison - which she's never going to get (but cutting through airport fences and then causing massive cost and disruption to thousands of people is not going to go down well).

As Sepp, and maybe someone else said... this is all about the oppressive nature of the law used to bring the prosecution. Knowing no details about the case before reading this newstatesman article, I was in two-minds about whether it was right to charge them under anti-terror laws. It sounded a bit heavy-handed... but on the other hand I can accept that airports could have some sort of special status.

But the detail in that article is indeed chilling. It sounds like a lot of tenuous and potentially contrived justification has been used make the crime fit this particular terror law. It feels like British justice is moving in the wrong direction... away from our traditional values.

Excellent source (Russia Today)

That is a completely different flight and also note how it says "alleged" in this country one is considered innocent until proven guilty.

even if that instance were true and he was a rapist does that mean that the passengers on the flight this thread refers too were rapists?
I was not relating these passengers on this flight to be rapist at all, I was just highlighting an example of people who thought they were doing a good deed at the time by stopping a flight, and that they need to be aware of the full facts before taking action and the law into their own hands.

I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories, but there's something very dodgy about the handling of this case.

What the hell were the jury playing at, knowing the possible consequences and witnessing the obvious shady procedure?............ You'd think at least a few of them would have thought.." erm hang on a minute " !

The problem is that they were guilty. No jury could find them not guilty as the evidence was overwhelming. The issue is the sledgehammer to crack a nut law they were charged under. If they'd been charged with aggravated trespass or similar, there'd have been less of an issue: guilty, fine, job's a good'un.

Guilty of what amounts to an International Terrorism charge?.. Maybe you're right but they could have acquitted out of bloody mindedness.... I pressume the AG ( dodgy git) was taking instruction from the Home Office with a view to closing down peaceful protests..Not quite the same but it's similar to the other dodgy fecker that jailed the fracking protesters for 18 months ( ish ) each but they were then released immediately on appeal...Hopefully this will go the same way eventually but I wonder how much it will have cost by the time it's all over.

Maybe the big guy who was escorting him should have told the passengers? ( assuming he knew of course ).

Yep, crazy to use
terrorism-related charge but the law should come down hard on them. I will always stand up for peaceful protest but this went way beyond that.

No he was not he got convicted to nine years only served four he was supposed to be booted out until these muppets stopped it happening .He was caught at the scene DNA prove you may not like the law of this country but that is the way it is I am afraid. He was alleged to be a terrorist as with the people he hanged round with have ISIS sympathy's . How about instead of sticking up for someone who should never be here how about the poor girl who got raped .

I think you need to read more about this case instead of just watching one report from Russia today.
