I see your point Rob and it's a fair one and one that does make you think......but is there any connection with the OP?..... Surely these people didn't break into an airport and chain themselves to a plane on a whim?..... If they are an organised group which they appear to be then one would assume they'd done their homework on the deportees first?..Hope so anyway.......

Thanks for the links rob, this is the key bit for me and what makes it totally different to what the thread is actually about.

But the passengers who thought they were doing a good deed were unaware that the man they were defending had been sentenced to nine years in jail for his part in a vicious gang rape of a teenage girl

Wheras in this story the protesters knew exactly why the man in question was being deported and their planned protest succeeded in seeing an innocent man acquitted.

If he is innocent, I must say I have not read anything about him so can not comment on that part . As I stated earlier I am all for people protesting peacefully to get their point across but if you break the law you have to except the consequences although to use the terrorism law in this case is crazy. I am sure they will appeal and common sense will win the day.

Many years ago I invaded county hall while in progress discussing the poll tax calling a complete halt to it. I felt so strongly about it I had to do it although I got arrested but was prepared and excepted it for what it was. I am a bit miffed at the moment as well the CEO of our council was given forty seven thousand five hundred to move house .What has he done though stayed put but pocketed the money ,our money it is a disgrace when people are struggling to live at the moment the pigs noses are still in that trough. For some reason he can not live off nearly two hundred grand a year. Rant over...

No he was not he got convicted to nine years only served four he was supposed to be booted out until these muppets stopped it happening .He was caught at the scene DNA prove you may not like the law of this country but that is the way it is I am afraid. He was alleged to be a terrorist as with the people he hanged round with have ISIS sympathy's . How about instead of sticking up for someone who should never be here how about the poor girl who got raped .

I think you need to read more about this case instead of just watching one report from Russia today.

You're right he did. I found the original sentencing link. He was one of 3 convicted of rape in 2008 in which case deportation is the right thing. The public weren't to know though which makes it a difficult situation.

As has been pointed out though this is a very different situation to the one in the OP. It's about using common sense in relation to the crime that has been committed.

So I was reading an article yesterday about a guy that had been to prison for possession of child porn. 9 years later he was caught with horse and dog porn. He wasn't sent to prison this time because the judge said the custodial term they could issue would not be long enough...I shit you not.

You got any links Paddy ......:eek:
