Have we got any train spotters amongst us. Come on, share your stories.

Here's one. The Flying Scotsman over Ribblehead Viaduct. Enjoy....

This is a hobby that comes in for some stick for being a bit nerdy etc, no hate from me, each to their own, but a serious question, what's the appeal?

I've never got the appeal with trains....however, train lines are utterly fascinating

The engineering, ideas, thought processes, creativity and sheer bloody determination that created the railways and trains to run on them is amazing imho. As is the technological advances in trains, tracks and the job of keeping it all running safely. Some of the architecture built and preserved by the railways is stunning.
I have a map of the original steam line infrastructure of Lancashire. Will try and post shortly

I wonder if anyone has been able to overlay the lost lines/Beeching cuts vs traffic routes that are now over capacity. We've loads of cycle routes down here through the Forest that are the old lines of various routes

There are attempts to have some of the lost lines and stations reopened.
The Tory manifesto promised £500m to reopen railways lines closed under Beeching. The cost per mile of reopening is between £9m and £17m. That money would pay for between 30 miles and 55 miles of track reopening. Beeching cuts removed 5,000 miles......

It’s perfectly plausible to bridge the gap by adding 55 miles of new line. You’re blinkering yourself with a negative attitude.

Remember that this is a government that’s able to increase the number of nurses in the NHS by 50,000 - simply by adding 30,000 nurses.

Anyway - sorry Karl for bringing politics into your thread. Time for it to get back on track :sneaky:

Who had a Locoshed. I used to hide mine in my satchel couldn't let the girls at school see it or you would be labelled a wierdo. You'd never get in their knickers if you were caught with a Locoshed! Carol Corlett are you reading? :)

Carol Corlett - have you the faintest idea what you missed out on 😂😂😂

It was a bit like a pleasant form of education. Who the hell was Boadicea? Who was Sir Dodinas le Savage? I had no choice though, the WCML ran past the back of our house 😂.
