Until last year I lived literally a five minute walk from this place, now I’m more a 25 minute walk, but it would still be well worth the visit.

There’s one in Bamber Bridge as well, it’s truly excellent and reasonably priced even in the evenings.
I had a look at the menu for Umberto’s and it was around £5 for a sausage along with other sky high prices. Too much for me, along with beef dripping for the chips being another obstacle.
I will give it a go if in the area though always found parking a problem round there. We rarely have takeaways - couple of times a year , so happy to pay for something that is superior quality. The Moor Brook team, if their beers are anything to go by, will be concentrating on the quality end of the product range. Always prefer to pay £4.50 or whatever for one quality pint than £4.50 for 2 pints of piss. Can never understand the fosters / John’s smiths drinkers, but each to his own.
And whilst they may seem very expensive at the moment, a lot of takeaways are going to have to up their prices to survive as with the price of power and food they are unsustainable businesses. .
Having said that , I feel they may have misjudged the market for takeaways In this town. Your average consumer of takeaways seems to be someone who has them regularly and goes for the most food at the cheapest price. That sadly is the market. Seems to reflect a lot of our society at the moment ,a sort of race to the bottom, in quality of product and service , with wages to suit. I was at the capitol centre in Walton le dale on Saturday and couldn’t believe the size of the queues to get in to the new Home Bargains !

We have cut down on takeaway food, not that we had a lot anyway, another way to save is buy a large fish between two people and buy a tin of mushy peas at about 49p and microwave them at home. Shops will have to put prices up to cope but if folks don't have the disposable income then there's only one possible outcome

Meh, it's fish & chips, it tastes of batter and oil.
It's just the location that I find odd. City centre I'd say fair enough.
Plus chippies don't really have the luxury of doing much in terms of delivery orders like burger joints.
West End is pricier than other chippies without being anything special these days, but still nowhere near this price bracket.

But - give a Chipshop mild curry sauce with your Fish-in-Batter & it's a nice 'dip'.
If you don't want to spend more on (let's be honest) a bit ripoff price for such a Sauce or Mushy Peas from your Chippy, purchase a packet of "Young's Chinese Curry Mix"
( £1.95 for a 220g. packet ), and make it up yourself in a jug or something. I also buy
"Goldenfry Cheese Sauce Granules" ( £1.29 for a 250g. tub ) - for those Cheesy additions on your Chips.
Both these additions are quick & versatile and you don't need to make anymore you need at any one go.
Tried it yesterday lunchtime, having lunch with a friend so we got a carry out. Quite a long wait to get served .
Ordered fish and chips, pudding and chips, 2 lots of peas, 1 portion of gravy, about £21. We were going to try half each.
Fish ( May have been a large one) was superb, and lovely crispy batter. Peas were excellent, pudding (bigger than usual) and gravy really good too. But chips were iffy, a bit mushy.
Fish and chips came in a cardboard shoe box, packaging for recycling.
Quantities far too big, and I’ve got a decent appetite, we threw away as much as we ate, if I go again I would share one lot between 2 people. Glad I’ve tried it though. Probably will go again if I’m feeling wealthy but won’t be a regular thing, maybe to try some of their other offerings.
For value and quality I prefer Dawson’s in Kirkham, and far more efficient service even when busy.
