Matchday Thread Barrow v PNE - 15/07/23 - KO:15:00 - Friendly

Imagine my shock in a run on Ledson's blindside resulting in him throwing his arms in the air in disbelief. Happened so many times last times over the last 2 years.

His spacial awareness at this level is really poor.
And at League 2 level apparently

Wow. I dont think ive ever seen another player do that!!
Woodburn does it almost every time he has a chance usually it straight at the keeper or off target , the amount of good chances he has had but failed to score must be one of the worst overall fail ratios of our so called strikers for many seasons , and let’s face it we’ve had some bad ones over the last few years .

Ledson gets some stick but he deserves far more. How does a midfielder play 120 games in the Championship from the age of 20 to 25, with the likes of Gally, Pearson and DJ at their peak, and manage to get worse?
I don’t know how he’s done it

The one at BB hit the post and Potts blasted into the trees at the back.

It doesn’t matter that he missed the chamce, friendlies are all about fitness and tactics and not results - and passing sideways and backwards whilst being safe at the back.

Screenshot of the Woodburn chance that caused so much debate on the day (the shot was straight at the Barrow player on the line, who blocked it with his left foot):

I've seen lots of requsts for various emojis, to be added, for use in replies to varoius posts. Perhaps "a giant pair of Bollocks" emoji would be useful, because there is one hell of a lot of "bollox" written on here

Think you must be replying to the wrong post - nothing I posted there was "bollocks", or even "bollox".

I’d love to see how @JK managed that one

Not one senior player has scored or looked like scoring which is a slight concern.

That starting eleven could still be playing now and not scored.

Barrow looked like they have a game plan and played to it well.

I still have no idea how Ryan wants us to play but with Woodburn and Nelson up top it was never going to work.

We have Keane now but adding one or two more with quality (ir cannon type) would make a huge difference.

Hopefully taking out some of the players we all know are not up to it and putting in the new lads will make a difference moving forward.

It is pre season and whilst it is about minutes the lads today are players who for the main have played alot of games under Ryan but it didn't look like it.

Anyway, its a friendly so no major post moretum needed but lots to work on.
A game plan wont be evident when you have 2 lads playing up front who will not be near the first team on day one. The reaction & analysis over a glorified training/fitness session at Barrow has got me somewhat amused

Tend to agree though from what I have read it seems the established first team players are still in jog-trot mode. They certainly need to shift up a gear now so that they can be at full pace for the start of the season.

Absolutely. Far worse than Woodburn over a longer period but gets nowhere near as much stick. They’re both utter shite though.

This picture sums it up really. They only have 2 men in the box, the lad receiving the ball and the lad at the back post who scores. We have 5 or 6, hard to tell with the camera work. Ledson has allowed his man to just walk into the box completely unchecked, Diaby is out wide cos he had to cover the runner with Potts too high, Bauer hasn’t moved across despite marking nobody in the area.

He’s receiving the ball with literally nobody behind him for 10 yards ffs. It’s shambolic defending. I know it’s only pre-season but it’s just simple basics that you’d expect defenders on the park on a Sunday to be doing. Hard to know if it’s just laziness or incompetence tbh.
