BBC Radio 2 In The Park

Think it's time to close this thread. Reasons

A) the big weekend has been and gone
B) it will leave no legacy
C) the music scene in Preston has pretty much always been shit
D) C won't change, folks would rather pay £££ in Manchester before heading to the Black Bull on a satdi night
E) there are other threads to reminisce on past glories.
F) I've got tickets for Gareth Gates

Completely agree .... You should unilaterally do it if you feel that way but you've no right whatsoever to suggest other interested parties shouldn't continue to discuss it.

I kind of understand what youre saying about the Grand Hall but its a kind of damned if you do, damned if you dont for the city council.

They will get absolutely slammed if they divert money from elsewhere to have that rotting roof replaced.

Why?..... They've diverted many Prestonians " hard earned " into their coffers by inventing ridiculous bus gates ( traps) etc..... Doubt they'd get much shit for improving the place although I admit that they wouldn't know how to do it if the answer was nibbling at their genitals....

They didnt, that was lancs county council.

Not that again............... I don't give a shit who it was.. They all get/waste our money.

Yep but you accused it of Preston council, so its only right that it was corrected.

It actually surprises me how many pay their way with Council Tax and are then ignorant of how and by whom it is spent.

Like I said,I don't care which ones which. Two cheeks of the same useless arse, right up to central government.

Roxy Music, Tom Jones, David Bowie, ABBA (I think), Bing Crosby, Johnny Cash, Duke Ellington - and the real greats like Showaddywaddy and The Wombles.

They also had comedians like Billy Connolly, Ken Dodd and Peter Kay but the days of any big names coming are long gone. They’ll always go to Manchester or Liverpool even if a huge arena suddenly popped up here, the best hope is for a mid sized venue maybe for smaller artists and snooker etc.

I saw Meatloaf at the Guild Hall in the mid 80’s

Looks like this was very profitable for the city, hopefully some of that money can be re-invested in the city

Think that back's up @Lord Edgington earlier post about folk mainly being attracted to the whole day out/bright lights of another city.

'Only around 13 per cent of those who attended the BBC-hosted concert lived in Preston, with the majority coming from further afield. It is estimated around 16,000 visitors stayed overnight, and a further 31,000 came for day trips'

We sure the demand is there from the people of Preston?

If you build it I don’t think they will come
