Matchday Thread Cardiff City v PNE - 11/12/24 - KO:7:45PM

Watmough and Storey had 2 superb goal mouth clearances saving certain goals, and Osmajics goal, couldn’t imagine Riis could score one like that based on current form.

Storey owed us that one for being five yards deeper than the rest of the defence, thus playing the lad onside.

To be fair to him he played pretty well last night.

They have top players but they're not great on the road. I think Farke is a pretty average manager.

They have the players to score 3 or 4 without even playing well, but we can certainly get something if we play like we did against Sunderland or Burnley.

Agreed. The only game I see as a "write off" this season is Leeds away. Anything else I think there's a chance of getting a result, because the competition and quality this season is all quite tight, and we're showing better performances than previous seasons.

Obviously we're not going to perform well in every single game, as no team does, but think we've shown enough that we have it in us to get points from anyone.

Its been a bit of a weird season in that we've had some decent results against good opposition and some shockers against slightly weaker teams.

The results and performances against Swansea, Oxford, Millwall, Plymouth, Bristol City and Portsmouth were bloody awful by any standards but some decent performances against Watford, Norwich, Luton, Burnley, Sunderland where we haven't necessarily got what we deserved.

Clearly we can compete, but consistency needs to improve - the car-crash results have to stop. The last 5 games since the Portsmouth debacle suggest the ship is being steadied. Could do without playing Leeds right now but at home you always should have a chance. I'm not too worried about the result but we absolutely have to be competitive.

You mean Robbo? This is sarcasm, surely?

He was subbed in the second half. Not the Robbo we all know and love, but I think with better service he'd still be dangerous.

He seems to be a very different player to the one we had. He's much bigger, musclier & hard runs about. He's like central link player now. I wonder if it's because of his hamstring injuries ?? Maybe Cardiff are protecting him ?? I still have great memories of Callum at North End. I wish him well

Yeah, tin hat time - I think Storey offers something different to the usual suspects. He was playing at RB last night and he was fairly solid. Obvs not a long term solution but I don't think he's due all the grief he gets.

I was just thinking the same. If Riis had shrugged his man off and been through like that you do wonder which row the ball would have ended up in.

It happened just like that earlier in the game when Riis blasted well over the goal after getting past Calum(ity) Chambers

Let’s hope we have a repeat of last season’s home game against Leeds. Hopefully Osmajic will upset Meslier again!! Unfortunately no Millar to play as he tormented the £40m Archie Gray now with Spurs.

That’s the reason we do it .

I remember going to Reading on my own on a Mercer’s coach in November 1976…..

My Mum & Dad both said that I was stupid for doing an 8 hour round trip….

There were only about 100 nobbers there that day ( 2 coaches ) but we won 2-0 and I felt so smug on the way home even though we got stuck on the Motorway in Fog….

I probably gave my Dad some cheeky banter when I got home 👍🏻

There's a massive difference in when you have to beat a keeper, vs slotting into an empty net. One doesn't require power, just hitting the target.

Very often hitting the target would be a good start.

It's never just hitting the target though. Beat a keeper, you aim for the corners. Just 'hit the target', means piss easy saves.

Riis shoots with power. Sometimes that means spectacular goals, sometimes it balloons into the stand. I'd rather have a chance of scoring, than a guaranteed shot on target.

I prefer precision into the top corner of the net 😁

He hit it straight at the keeper on Saturday when a couple of yards either side and we're 2-0 up. He seriously lacks composure.

Not just on about Riis lashing at shots by the way, a few do it. Thor was another culprit last night.
