Matchday Thread Cardiff City v PNE - 11/12/24 - KO:7:45PM

Agreed. The only game I see as a "write off" this season is Leeds away. Anything else I think there's a chance of getting a result, because the competition and quality this season is all quite tight, and we're showing better performances than previous seasons.

Obviously we're not going to perform well in every single game, as no team does, but think we've shown enough that we have it in us to get points from anyone.

Thats what they thought once before and it finished 6-4 to us. Never wright us off.

Its been a bit of a weird season in that we've had some decent results against good opposition and some shockers against slightly weaker teams.

The results and performances against Swansea, Oxford, Millwall, Plymouth, Bristol City and Portsmouth were bloody awful by any standards but some decent performances against Watford, Norwich, Luton, Burnley, Sunderland where we haven't necessarily got what we deserved.

Clearly we can compete, but consistency needs to improve - the car-crash results have to stop. The last 5 games since the Portsmouth debacle suggest the ship is being steadied. Could do without playing Leeds right now but at home you always should have a chance. I'm not too worried about the result but we absolutely have to be competitive.

I think we’re a mediocre team in a mediocre league that has had some mediocre results against some mediocre teams.

And we’ll probably finish somewhere in the middle.

Yes same here. A bad experience.

Was with you for that one wasn’t I?

David Oldfield at the treble. Their other two goalscorers both lost FA Cup finals whilst playing for London clubs earlier in their careers.

One lad who had played for PNE was in the Luton side, plus another who would go on to play for us.

Yes you were. Kevin Kilbane got jeered by our own fans if I remember correctly!

He hit it straight at the keeper on Saturday when a couple of yards either side and we're 2-0 up. He seriously lacks composure.

Not just on about Riis lashing at shots by the way, a few do it. Thor was another culprit last night.

I’ve said before I think I’d rather a full blooded effort with a 10% (for example) chance of scoring or winning a corner than a powder puff effort (like Bowler last night ) that’s on target but with almost a zero chance of scoring.

I'd just rather professional footballers could hit a ball cleanly. Sean Maguire was shocking for it.

It's about time that silly compulsory booking thing was scrapped.

So pleased for the fans who travelled. No away wins since December 11th. Thank fuck that hoodoo is now over. Think Leeds is a write off, so the 3 points tonight was vital.

The fact we’re now up to 14th says a lot about this division. No chance of us getting relegated this year, thank god.
This division is shite isn’t it, just two wins from those draws would see us sat 6 points from the play offs , madness .

Free hit on Saturday followed by some very winnable matches.

Not a free hit in my eyes. We go out there,11 v 11 and beat them. Fear them we lose . Face them and battle. They are in this division for a reason.

Thats like choosing whether you get run over by a bus or a truck!

How about asking for a good shot, full stop. Sometimes that means kicking the shit out of it, sometimes it doesn't.

It is. I thought the same as you so I looked it up but if a clear goalscoring chance happens from the quick free kick then the referee can go back to the caution. If he’d started the disciplinary process before the free kick was taken the play must be brought back as well. So you an let it go now!

DELAYED SANCTION
Once the referee has decided to show a YC or RC to a player, the free kick can be taken quickly only if:
View attachment 25132 it results in a clear goal-scoring opportunity for the non-offending team and
View attachment 25133 the referee has not started the disciplinary procedure

Interesting use of " 9.1 m. " ( by officialdom, ovs) on a pitch where all the other dimensions are in imperial units. Weird again, when one ref's strides are slightly different to another ref's strides ...😉

Bowler's effort was too early / too far away / yet still on target....

I guess you haven't had a look at the Laws of the Game for a while.

Especially this explainer on measurements: "If there is any divergence between metric and imperial units, the metric units are authoritative."

You're right I've not looked at them. Because I don't mark any pitches out, and of course, they are the same lengths, but now everybody is 'obliged' to use SI units, even though the game began in an imperial-unit based country. Yet now controlled by a Governing Body that isn't based in the country of origin !
( There are several dimensions that originally were in an exact round-number of units /dimensions:- )
The Goalkick Area 20yd x 6yd, Penalty Area 44yd x 18yd, Centre Circle- radius of 10 yds, Distance to Goal-line from Pen Spot- 12 yds, & 12 yds again from the Spot to the point in-line with the Kick-Off Spot in the Centre-Circle which corresponds with the point of the arc which creates the 'D'.
All these dimensions can ( and seemingly are) - be metricated. But as the metric equivalent sizes contain decimalised parts of the metric units in order to create the exact equivalent, the creators/maintainers of the pitches give themselves more work to do, to reach the exact distances/areas.
Whether the metric / direct conversions of the imperial units as above are used, - when the usage of the imperial units would be quicker and easier....plus - using these measurements in conjunction with the overall maximum and minimum sizes permitted ( between 85 yds x 55 yds up to 120 yds x 80yds - converting to 77.7m x 50.3m up to 109.7m x 73.1m ) - is actually an improvement to the game or making it any easier to the Ground staff is imo - questionable.
More questionable than wondering why all the relevant Road Signs are in Imperial Distances &:why beer etc drinkers buy that beer in Pints rather than in measures of 0.5 or 1.0 litres, out in a Pub !
