This really good news for Ched and for the club after a few pretty grim weeks.
Hope he has a great rehab during the summer, been a massive miss.
Not his biggest fan but this would help massively if we see the form from the second half of the season and not the first.
Still think he'd be bloody stupid to risk his health unless he was given as close to a guarantee you can get that he'll be safe to play the way he always has
Quite an astonishing situation really, could it possibly all be posturing for insurance reasons? The way Ched plays that has to be a concern but I am sure it is something he will discuss at length with his family and the medical staff.
The issue is we just don't know what level he can sustain if he does get back to playing.
With Riis out and no word for how much longer we currently have no fit professional strikers (albeit the young lads) on our books.
I am sure we will match anyone for some loans though.....
I know that everyone at the Club wants to be supportive of Ched in his recovery from this injury, but there is no way that we should be encouraging him to carry on playing.
This isn't a leg break or an acl. The surgeon has had to build a titanium cage around his spinal column in his neck. If this doesn't work he could end up disabled for the rest of his life, for the sake of one more part season at this level.
How can a Club risk a player like this? "We'll support Ched in what he wants to do" is an understandable emotional response, but somebody has to stand up and be the adult in the room.
We should have told him that we would be seeking the insurance payout for the remainder of his contract, that he should retire from playing and take up the alleged coaching offer from Fleetwood.
I’m no medic. I fully agree with your sentiment though.
They were saying that Americans Footballers sometimes get this injury. Do we know how often they play again? And if so, what are the outcomes? I only say this because the medics might be able to make good judgements about how the op and the rehab has gone.
I know it is not quite the same level of risk but who would have expected Andy Murray to have been able to play at such a level again. They must have judged that he was good to go.
Hence my question about the American Footballers !Nobody is smashing into Andy Murray to win a 50/50 header, in fairness. It's not that he can't be fit. It's that he plays a high impact position and neck damage is life changing.

I had the same surgery 10 years ago on the nhs. Albeit lower down my back . TLIF surgery it’s called. I have the same job now as I had before the surgery . But it took me 7 years to get back to some normality . Although I have nerve issues which will never go . He won’t know the full extent of his injury for a while yet I’d say .I know that everyone at the Club wants to be supportive of Ched in his recovery from this injury, but there is no way that we should be encouraging him to carry on playing.
