Many years ago when I were nobut a lad, and had just started to drink the ale, but I could never drink much. My mate and me used to go out on Friday and Saturday nights. We were very boring, the majority of Friday nights we would go to the Cavendish club, I'm talking very early 70's here. The cavendish became peppermint place I believe and went down from then on. But in the early 70's they had the very best of entertainment and a great place that could offer steak, fish, chips etc served to a table in the lounge which seated probably around 200 people , whilst the back room offered a large round dias with girls doing go go dancing and guys sitting close to that platform, this room was a disco room where people went to dance as they were perhaps not interested in the entertainment show. In all the time I went to the Cavendish I never saw any trouble, the entrance and exit was out into a multi storey car park.
On one occasion we saw Bob Monkhouse, not so hot on telly as he was restricted in many ways but live he was amazing, the funny thing was he did his show and then he went into the back room to do another live show and realised that all the complete place was watching him again and had funnelled through to see him, he changed his complete act and did another hour, that was the mark of a great entertainer.
We used to go on Saturday nights to different venues, mainly the Mecca at Blckpool and often Mecca at Blackburn I think it was called, ace of spades at Whalley, but one of our favourite places was the Queen's at Cleveleys, and the notorious Brian Rossi, what a fantastic comic and singer this guy was, and surprisingly Tamara his daughter messaged me this week and sent me this youtube of her and Brian singing Danny boy together. Whenever we went to the Queen's we never arrived late for if you did Brian was sure to make your life hell in the middle of his act.
I just thought it would be nice to hear if anyone else saw Brian, I know most of you lot are youngsters and probably had just started the "all nighter" at Wigan, might be good to recall and let us know which places you visited and what went on. I was never a fan of Park Hall, but we also went to the Batley variety show but took ages to get there. Attempting to add the youtube song which Tamara sent me.

The go-go dancers room was a casino previously, but changes to gambling laws meant they had to close it.

That tiered theatre room bit was fantastic.

Away from the obvious Preston venues of that era….Monday nights @ the Cavendish was ace.
Ace of Spades had some half decent turns on. Remember seeing The Ivy League there amongst others.
No Lodestar ? That was a rum place, strippers night during the week & some good acts on other nights., Suzi Quatro etc. Even the Sex Pistols performed there, sadly I wasn’t in attendance 😕
Blackpool Mecca weekend free bus from Preston & a fair few other towns. Spent most of my time there in the Highland Room for the Northern Soul.
Only comedian I can remember from then was Wandering Walter Horam who lived across the road from us in Moss Ave, Ashton.

Right now fetler, you just keep your cap on for now, because we have not yet caught the escaped wood pecker in the room 🤣
