Could this be the end of Trump?

“It’s just Trump’s bluster… he obviously doesn’t mean it” - that’s how his supporters on here sneered at people who reacted to Trump’s disgusting or disturbing campaigning -or to his unicorn promises. Things like claiming he’d end the Ukraine war in 24hrs… which post-election became 2 weeks, a month… and now sits at 6 months (and counting).

🙄

He didn’t say when that 24 hour timescale would start though 😉

It's certainly an impressive jedi mind-trick going on here from Trump, reading these tweets from the leaders of Canada and Mexico.

"These aren't the droids you're looking for..."

Quite a move by Trump.

Announce 25% Tariiffs to start within days, invest and get your cronies to invest in stocks once the values plunge, then hey presto Tariffs suddenly cancelled and share prices surge.

Look out for more insider trading opportunities for the Trumpsters who get advance notice about how Trump’s impulsive actions are going to be announced.

Once a crook, always a crook.

Interesting conspiracy theory! I guess some journo is looking for evidence

If you start looking into US politicians and benefiting from trading in stocks with insider info/conflicts of interest, that is a huge rabbit hole - and happens across both sides of the divide. Once again, for those seeking to accuse Trump of this, don't ignore what went on before. Corruption and self-interest permeates the entire system.

I don’t know enough about stock trading to weigh in specifically on this “incident,” but it’s no coincidence that US politicians, at least, leave office wealthier by a multiple of what they were worth when elected.

Yup - it happens in the UK, too, but the US political system takes it to a whole new level. Those trying to make it a Rep vs. Dem issue are missing the point - making it a partisan issue means it will never be solved (if it even can be - they always seem to find a way around it).

Agree.

Great start by Trump though. No messing about.

Oh look, Trump doing Trump shit…exactly like some of us have been saying.

I read the Canadian $1.3bn border plan was agreed under Biden, same with the Mexico “deal”.

If that’s correct and Trump is claiming a false victory here, all he’s actually achieved is to destroy trust with friendly allies and create bad blood.

I'll be applying for the job of 'Fentanyl Czar'!!

Read from a reliable source Gordon?

Maybe Trump is a symptom rather than the cause. The whole system is sick.

He’s been a crook all his life hasn’t he so he’s well suited to a sick system.

And let’s face it he’s really just the puppet with more sinister characters pulling his strings.

Looks like it was finalised back in December:

The question is whether that was due to Biden or because they were responding to Trump's threats before he was inaugurated:

"Incoming U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 25 per cent import tariff on all products from Canada and Mexico if the two countries fail to curb the flow of migrants and drugs, particularly fentanyl, across their borders. (no interpretation)."
