Could this be the end of Trump?

It sounds clever having a go at him for this and they are crass remarks when taken out of context but the reality is that U.K. lives could be needlessly lost because Germany, France, Canada, Spain, Italy etc put their money elsewhere but will expect our forces to help out if the shit hits the fan.
I agree all NATO members should pay their share but the irony is strong with Trump criticising others for not paying their bills. The guy is a dangerous idiot who cares only about himself.

Germany's reluctance has long been a point of contention - especially when they financially benefit from the other countries fulfilling their part of the agreement.

I think you will sometimes defend anything or anyone, in order to be contrary - which, ironically - is what Trump likes to do too!!

Those are "crass" and extremely dangerous remarks no matter what context they are said by an American president. In what way are his remarks "taken out of context"? Obviously it's an issue that several countries are not pulling their weight but come on. It's an outrageous thing to say.

He’s absolutely moronic, as are most of the people you’ll see at his rallies. They love this stuff.

The headline sounds like he announced this. It turns out he was asked by a leader of one of these countries and this was the answer he gave.

Look Reggie, he’s clearly a knob but I will always look for the uncomfortable truth. Should he have said it? Not really. Does he draw attention to an issue that might bite the U.K. on its arse in the future? Yes.

Europe has enough British and American blood in its soil already and a lot of it was there because other nations didn’t prepare properly for war.

If you want peace (Germany etc)
…Prepare for war

I seriously doubt any foreign president ever asked him that question, tbh. He would name them if it were true.

The guy cannot stop himself from lying.

Sorry- but you’re not revealing some uncomfortable truth. Nobody would think that Trump had stood up and made a policy announcement like that. If he had, the headline would have been hugely different. The headline was entirely appropriate for the content of the article.

Fully agree that we need to get our allies to do their bit. And he probably thinks he’s shaking the tree with this. But it’s damned dangerous and counterproductive. It’s a gift to Putin (which does nothing to dispel suggestions that he’s like a puppy dog in front of Putin (or even more pointed accusations).

Agree that if you want peace, you need to be prepared for war. Part of that preparedness is not to exhibit massive disunity on your own side of the fence.

NATO exits to protect USA. That's all
Obviously NATO didn't exist in 1940 and times change, but the fact that the US intervened then suggests they do see the bigger picture. I agree that they only have self interest at heart, but if Europe was to fall the US would be isolated and vulnerable.

The alerts in the back of my head say that this is true. But I am not sure that them committing to virtually commit to World War in the event that Russia invaded Lithuania (or wherever) is entirely about self protection.

Agree with much of that…

However…’Disunity’ like not paying your 2%?

The NATO countries Trump isn't happy with should all cease being NATO members, tell America to remove their military bases from their countries. Apply to join BRICS, stop using the US$ to buy oil, gas and commodities. Stop using the US banking system and stop buying US government debt.

Talk about wanting to have your fucking cake and eat it!

Yeah the Germans are going to do that aren’t they.

Trump makes a very good point as he does on many occasions, its just he doesnt make the point well, if you know what I mean.
