I am doing a academic writing on former forgotten players and the how it effects their lives, pre and post football.

I can think of a select few such as Simon Whaley or Paul McKenna, but ideally want something that’s really going to grab the readers attention.

Please can anyone remind me of former forgotten players and what has become of them?

The more obscure and stranger the situation, the better as I am trying to really trying to find out the working lives of footballers, and how much of a short career it is.

Have a look at this short thread - it is potentially a really good human interest story for you, about a young PNE footballer who was robbed of a career by a cardiac arrest as a teenager nearly 20 years ago.

The footballer in question is a member of this forum (posted a few hours ago) so if you think it might fit your criteria, you can quite easily privately message him to ask if he’s willing to share his story.

Neal Trotman is a psychotherapist in Manchester.

That's a point, I think he talked about some of his experiences on Under the Cosh

@jamesmckevitt it might be worth going through some of the Under the Cosh's with ex North enders to see what they're up to post career. There are some that are exclusive to their Patreon, but if money is tight you sub for one month and download all the ones you need

I wonder how Clarke Carlisle is doing these days. Hope he's doing better. I remember he had quite an important job within the PFA at one point but he's also had his mental health struggles. He could be an interesting one to find out about and he's from the area originally

Apologies for the paper it’s in.

Fun fact - I work with Tony Ford (MBE) who also sells life insurance. Always got time for a chat about his extremely long football career, great bloke.

Didn't he play until he was about 42 or something for Mansfield? Can remember a programme about it as assume at the time he was the oldest pro still playing in U.K Football (hence the MBE).

When I was at school , we had to write to famous people , I chose Anita Dobson ( Ange - Eastenders ) and Vernon Allatt , still have the letter he wrote back , he met me and my Dad outside Lowthorpe Rd , he signed my shirt , got us tickets for an away game and was a real gentleman…. And Anita Dobson sent a signed picture 😂😂
