Gentry Day 2015/16 - Bolton 12/03/16 (Confirmed)

Normally I hold my tongue when it comes to gentry day as i do respect PSG for donating there time to organise it but Bolton is absolutely awful. It's going to be a nightmare to get there as the trains will be packed and there's nothing round the ground.

Ah well, I'll be there regardless.

Thanks for letting me know.

May I suggest for real ale drinkers the main drag in Horwich from The Crown down to The Saddle on Lee lane is a good choice, around 6 pubs within half a mile or so all serving quality real ale.
short taxi trip or even bus from winter hey lane. Job done

Booze in Manchester, get the train to Horwich the other way. Avoid the crammed train from Preston.

Sorted.

I wouldn't bank on that plan too much. The train the opposite way (from Manchester to Horwich) will be full of Bolton fans trying to get from Bolton to Horwich, and in any case, that service now is much reduced, and instead it mainly runs from Manchester to Preston through Wigan rather than through Horwich. I get that train to work every day and they are extremely unreliable at the moment - late every day last week Mon-Fri, and so far late this week Mon and Tues. You will need the Manchester Victoria train rather than the Picadilly one.

catch the stagecoach 125 bus, goes through Horwich and theres plenty of them.

Cheers.

Something will be worked out.

Anyone previously got a taxi to Boltons ground from Bolton centre. If so what's approx cost.was thinking of drinking in Bolton town centre.
cheers

judging by the distance approx 5.5 mile i would hazard a guess abbout £10

I too agree that Bolton is an abysmal choice for Gentry Day. Hardly much of a "trip", is it?

Absolutely asking for trouble. I think this will be the death knell for this marvellous tradition.

Whoever "sanctioned" the decision has just bowed to pressue from idiots.

I think the lack of decent fixtures at that time of the year has made the choice difficult this season, and Bolton presents the best chance for there to be a big number attend. And the day isn't and shouldn't be about how lashed you can get and how many pubs you can go in, albeit I know people like raising a glass to those who are no longer with us.

FWIW I might have considered making this season's a home game as a one off and tried something a bit different, but even then the home matches in February, March and April aren't the most inspiring - Charlton, BHA, QPR, Fulham, MK Dons etc.

Why does it have to be a long trip ?

The more people that can go the better.

You're right; an acid trip is preferable.

Can you remind me which idiots have we bowed to ?

Horwich it is. I can do my big shop at "Bolton's" adjacent shopping park before the match. Nicely scheduled.

Perhaps we might publicly appeal to all fans to behave appropriately on the day. It would be a shame to see it ruined and perhaps prevented* for future seasons if some of the two-pint pisspots start acting like twelve year olds!

(I can think of a number of events this has happened to in the past)*
