GENTRY DAY

The away match at West Brom on Saturday 13th April has been selected as the date for this years annual Gentry day.

Whilst our supporters are enjoying themselves on the day it is right to remember what Gentry Day is all about, which is remembering members of the North End & Preston community who are no longer with us.

Once again PNE-Online are proud to support Gentry Day and as ever we have this dedicated thread for users to post the names, memories or stories of people you would wish to be remembered by the Preston North End supporters on Gentry Day in the midlands.

Feel free to post as much or little detail as you like and everyone who will be donning their bowlers at The Hawthorns will do so in their memory.

We're not just fans... we are The Gentry!

OK, I will start the thread off with memories of two guys I came to know through our love of PNE.

The first guy I will be thinking of will be a chap some of you will know of even if you never met him, his name was John Gregson aka The Flying Plumber from the old 606 forum.
I met him locally whilst walking our dogs and we spent hours on end just walking and talking PNE.
Top man and lifelong PNE fan, John Passed in January 2015.

The second chap I first met when he sat in the seats behind me when the Allan Kelly stand opened in I think 2001 along with his son Sam and his mate “Crazy Chris”, his name is Paul Brooks, he was an ex policeman, he was a big guy a gentle giant if ever there was one. Paul passed in February 2017 and I suppose we were “match day mates”

Two top guys, PNE through and through and I won’t forget them. ? (Where’s the bowler hat when you need one).

I’m going in memory of Mum who was a season ticket holder for over 40 years. Mum made a thread on the forum last year when the club got her date of birth wrong on the screen 1747 not 1947 that we put on in her memory. Mum would have laughed. I’ve struggled to get on games despite having my season ticket as I would take Mum on. Tough first year without Mum but also my sister who also passed away last year #GentryDay

cheers JK .... I'm remembering 4 people.
Great grandad Richard - who watched PNE as a cricket team before we played football and obviously watched the Invincibles. Attended his last games in his 80's walking the 15 miles from home to the matches.
Grandad William - who I attended with form the late 50's until his death in the mid 70's... 1 of 2 PNE fans who went to the 1938 Cup Final but missed the winner because they had to catch a train after 90 mins and was on the platform at Wembley when 'somebody' scored!....didnt know who till they got off the train.
Uncle Richard - took me as a kid to all the games he could - including Wembley 64.... Sadly collapsed and died playing cricket the same afternoon PNE beat Cardiff 9 - 0 (he'd driven us to the game before going off to play at Earby).
Finally Mum - a PNE fan herself form the 30's and used to walk that 15 miles with her grandad; Dad and brothers... Went home and away with her for many years - Wembley 64 & 94, Cardiff 2001 & 2005..... passed away in 2013 during another Westley home defeat !!!she couldn't take anymore!!

I'll be at WBA with my son (who is 18 the day before) and 2 daughters...... 5th generation PNE fans and very much there for the Gentry as much as the result.

Thanks for all the memories and special times' God Bless

A very happy birthday to your son

I will be offering my thoughts and prayers naturally to all those who have passed away, young or maybe young at heart and especially their families and loved ones - over the years the heartache does get easier but the memories are always so precious.
In particular this year I offer a thought to my friend John Roper who sadly saw his father depart to the great pitch in the sky, I know just how much the club and their travel together meant to them both

My da.

Made it to the first game of the season, god knows how. Passed away the Saturday after.

Died convinced we were getting promoted this season, so at least he wasn’t disappointed.

Thanks edgy, really appreciate your thoughts.

Be a tough day on Saturday both off the field and on. My Dad would have been embarrassed with me making a fuss...but his small place in Gentry history is fully deserved.

We will always have Fulham in 71...our finest hour together.

God bless Dad X

You were much more than a Father, you were Gentry.

My Dad, lifelong PNE fan until his passing away ten years ago. Spent many hours come rain or shine cheering me on as a kid when I played parks football on mud bath pitches in the 70s, can still hear his voice shouting from the touch line now. Rest in peace, Dad, your heart still beats in mine.
Father, teacher, friend.

My dad; one of the staunchest supporters of Sir Tom (and his minders) you'd ever have been likely to meet.

To add, and to quote from JK, I will remember ALL members of the Preston North End & Preston community who are no longer with us; the time and devotion they all gave to this club is immeasureable. God Bless all of you.

Is there a limit on how many likes you can put on one thread?

Very moving reading these. Let’s remember every single one of them and just as importantly appreciate those we still have.

Proud (to live and die) Preston.

As a first generation fan i always find this thread particularly moving. Helps me understand the history of the club but more what it has meant to the people of Preston over the years. My thoughts are with you all.

Remembering Dave Wilcock who was a work mate at CCA who sadly passed away in February - up to a few years ago he went home and away - apart from PNE he loved his ale and bowling at Parkfield Club near his home R.I.P.
Remembering also an elderly gent called Frank who sat next me behind the goals on row 23 on the Town End - I think he passed away around New Year - only knew him for a season and half - he was a nice guy who loved his cricket aswell - he missed a few games as he often visited his son in London - R.I.P.
