Gentry Day Film!

Superb watch that thanks all round.
Was at that match at Fulham when Ricky scored. His mum and dad went on supporters club coach so you can
imagine how proud they were.

Also remember meeting up with my old mate John Treacy and walking to the ground to get our free bowlers.

Memories with you forever.

Jo Harwood was the librarian at my high school (Broughton), and I had no idea she had such a strong history with North End! Great video

Very enjoyable.

Well done to all involved. This is a special club, PNE have something money can't buy.

Brilliant video. Thanks for sharing.

Also great to have such a true member of the Gentry as kitman in Steve Cowell helping boost the pride in the club and the team spirit in the dressing room. Great work Steve.

As we await news on this years Gentry Day have a watch on this film which has been producd by North End fans at WZ with UCLan of which I was delighted to take part in.

Personally I think it’s brilliant.
Can't get any sound! ???

Who is as far as I am aware still alive despite being the oldest member of the 64 Cup Final squad. Looking at that photo the only others I believe are still with us are Dave Wilson and Alex Dawson. I genuinely don't know whether that is the case with Ian Davidson or the fellow at John Barton's right shoulder who must be John Donnelly. The fellow at the far left of the photo is George Ross who, of course, worked as a match day host at our place until the very last day of his life. Sad that people who were boyhood heroes have passed on. That was and still remains for me the greatest ever PNE team.

On another note early on in the film someone says that the gentry started with a match at Fulham. As I recall Alan Ball Snr uttered the words after a night match at Torquay.
Hi Ernest
Just discovered this bit of the site.

I scripted and directed the film. It was a true pleasure to do. The likes of JK and Shaun Fagan and the other true Gentry made it a real joy. Messrs Roper and Cowell were just superb in everything they did.

Just a wee quibble. No-one suggests that Fulham away was the origin of Gentry Day - it was indeed sparked by Alan Ball Senior after an away game at Torquay, which Steven Cowell had hitch-hiked to attend. John Roper’s voiceover talks of away days that we all remember, and which we now hang our (bowler) hats on as great outings which are commemorated by Gentry Day. The picture of the team with Alex Dawson, for example, well precedes Gentry Day. But the point is that earlier memories have their place and can be stored under the Gentry Day label of beloved old games, players and friends that we think of on that day.

In short, the voiceover does not say Gentry Day began at Fulham, but it could be clearer on that point. If I do an update- Callum Robinson, Aiden McGeady, Alex Neil and, sadly, Steve Cowell all no longer at the club - I’ll make sure there’s no ambiguity on this point.

I’m very pleased people like the film. It was a labour of love to do.

Hoping fervently for a win at Blackpool today!

Best wishes

Thank you so much for asking me to do the intro, Martin. Hope to see you soon, mate.

You were superb, John. An edit of your words and the voiceover of a true pro - first take! Till soon.

Off topic: if we’d just turned the screw in QPR to 1-3, Whitman had buried the sitter at Bloomfield and we’d scored even one of the three chances against Liverpool we’d be saying this is a really good season…

Thanks for bumping this. I've just watched it for the second time and it was just as enjoyable as the first, it brought a little tear to my eye too. 😊

Just realised that the Mrs is pictured at the beginning at Fulham, fortunately I am obscured by the chap front and centre.

It reminded me when we arrived at Euston station and she went for a call of nature and left me standing waiting there donning my bowler hat.

Next thing I am approached by this couple and in a broad Welsh accent politely asks what are all these people doing wearing bowler hats.

I don’t know if they were on a group outing but before you know it I am surrounded by around 15/20 people and I am educating them on the story of Gentry Day.

I am not the most outgoing of people and I couldn’t believe myself what I had just done, all the comments of “that’s brilliant” and “wow” and such.

It really is something special, something that PNE fans should be proud of, long may it last.

Words spoken by a few that any one of us could have said, that relate to us all (depending on age!)
That film needs to be brought to a wider audience than this forum before every Gentry Day
Watching that video was poignant & bittersweet, but uplifting in that so many can come together to share memories of what is truly a bloody big PNE family. Who once a year get together to keep the memories of those nobbers no longer with us alive.
