Absolutely - but I suspect the apology was because the term Holocaust is literal and specific to the murder of the Jews.

It’s all semantics obviously.

Even if that’s the reason, it didn’t need spelling out on air. Just genuinely apologise to whoever is offended - I doubt that most Jewish people would have wanted one. It’s not like ITV were trying to whitewash over the horrors visited upon Jewish people.

Anyway, wouldn’t the news piece have been centred on the Auschwitz anniversary, which did murder others too.

Polish, gays, gypsies, disabled, anyone who was not fit, too young or too old. Anyone who didn’t fit the Arien plan.

If you listen to the full clip it does mention the poles, disabled. gays etc etc who were also killed along with "the people" - they specifically didnt mention Jews. It was a ludicrous omission. There was almost a hesitancy before she said 'people' where she clearly should have said Jews- either she knew it wasnt right on the autocue or it was right and she changed it.

I don't buy in to any anti-semitic conspiracy theory. I personally put it down to the way society has gone with everyone tip toeing around such that even the word ' Jew' now cant be said without someone worrying they going to upset a Jewish person, a Muslim or something. Same with the word 'black' . You just pause and think " am I saying something offensive and had I better change the word "( and someone here, my theory is, in a rushed moment, has decided they better had) .

Think it is the figure - 6 million Jews and whatever additional number of other people on top of that, so I think they should have been more specific with that.

Holocaust does sometimes encompass the other groups murdered by the Nazis - and it can be and is used for other events. That said, when you say the Holocaust, everyone knows which one.

6 million Jews and 10-15k homosexuals, some of whom were Jewish too presumably?

I’m not surprised they were upset about not getting a name check tbh.

That’s opened my eyes to how AI is going to be used to shape online debate (or is already doing so).

AI is already subtly shaping online debate. Algorithms curate content, influencing what users see and potentially creating echo chambers. AI-powered bots can participate in discussions, spreading misinformation or amplifying certain viewpoints. Sentiment analysis tools track emotional responses to arguments, potentially informing strategies for persuasive communication. Furthermore, AI can identify and flag potentially harmful content like hate speech, though biases in training data remain a challenge. The future likely holds more sophisticated AI interventions, impacting everything from the tone and style of online arguments to the very structure of debate platforms.

They took communists who had escaped Spain and were put into camps by the French in 1938/39.
Vichy France then sent 30000 Spaniards to Germany for forced labour in 1940. Around half of them died there.

On a more serious note, I see that Netanyahu is to have the honour of being the first foreign leader to meet the new president in the White House.

So, less than 5 hours after the attacks began, while Hamas and many Gazans were rampaging through Israel, murdering and raping, the PSC decided to organise a March in support.

I didn’t think I could hate that bunch of cunts, their supporters and their hangers on, anymore than I did.

You'll still get certain people on this forum defending it.
