January 2025 - Transfer Window Rumours and Discussion

With the defence Whatmough might move on but he's only a sub anyway. Gibson, Porteous signed permanently if he does well and Storey and Linsday as back ups with over 200 championship games between them so it will need to be an exceptional young CB on loan to be playing regularly imo.

The CBs from Saturday are what we're going to be seeing next season. Evans and Bauer are as fringe as you can get, Bowler and Okkels played more than either so I'd argue they don't really need to be replaced.

The biggest immediate revolution is once more at wing back so naively I am hoping that will be sorted on both sides by end of July, certainly PH will push this I'm sure and KHH was signed before Sheffield United last season in fairness.

The question mark is upfront. All of Riis, Keane and Osmajic could be off so need three new CFs in straight away which will be either incredibly exciting or terrifying depending on which national league north game Riddler is currently watching this midweek.

If Osmajic isn't around then there will be plenty of money to work with and PH has worked with excellent loan players upfront in the past so failing to get in decent replacements won't be anything to do with the manager.

Keane will be here. Don't worry about that.

We do sort of get an answer to this in The Riddler's interview (listening to the podcast rather than reading the LEP article).

Basically he's more forthright with his recommendations according to the budget set. Before it was just feedbacking back on players.

Ridsdale has described the process before as MRKT Insights and the scouts (including Chief Scout Wallace) report to Ridsdale first, where lists of players are agreed, including based on affordability, and then finally taken to the manager for him to "approve" - which I always thought was dodgy, as it placed Ridsdale in the position of de facto Head of Recruitment.

But the way it's described now (in the interview at least) has MRKT Insights and the scouts (including new Head of Recruitment Wallace) reporting to PH first, where the lists of players are agreed and then finally taken to Ridsdale to go and recruit - which seems the way it should be to me.

Remains to be seen whether this arrangement holds, but it seems to be a positive if confirmed to be true.

Ridsdale said there’s one player who’s made it absolutely clear they’re not talking about a new contract and will be leaving. He says it’s obvious so that’s Riis

I'd say it's much more obvious that it's Bauer!

This is the problem with Ridsdale living in his own little one-to-one-with-his-fan-club email world (what he called the social media) - he thinks everyone knows who he's talking about with his little nods and winks, because he's emailed dozens of people about it - but the rest of us, the other several thousand, don't.

Leeds going up wouldn’t play a factor in getting Greenwood permanently. All the financial details are ironed out according to Ridsdale

Yeah, he confirms that in the interview - that is definitely a change from what Ridsdale said in August - so presumably they've already had discussions with Leeds about taking him on permanently. Hope that doesn't explain his downturn in form recently.

Greenwood is good but way too inconsistent…don’t think we should take him permanently

If we got a good windfall of cash from a big sale, it's a signing that would make sense. But on a more limited budget, at the moment I would also be against it.

Very busy summer. Up to 10 coming in. So yeah, 9.

But of course the manager may want to extend two or three. So yeah, 6.

And of course, we've now got young Kitt and Kacper showing real promise in pre season - why would we stifle their development. So yeah, 4.

And of course, Jeppe played really well in that last game of the season against Ross County. We've invested and he could come good. So yeah, 3. If we can get them. Budget is tight and the market is difficult.
This!

Every summer is going to be a big one, chance to reset and shape the squad blah blah, then Jan, then summer…….does anyone actually believe it anymore?

That is why he is on loan at PNE, if he was more consistent he would probably be playing for Leeds.

He isnt in the best of form at the moment but overall has done well.

Maybe he just needs a permanent home?

If there was interest from both sides I just cant see him and the club agreeing on wages. Isn't he on about 30k a week?

I'd guess the agreement would be along the lines of if they go up, Leeds would cover some of his wage for what would be his final season of his current contract, so that they actually get a transfer fee for him. Then after that he'd be on whatever wage it is that we're offering up.

It'd be in Leeds best interest so they actually get a fee for him instead of him going for free the following summer, as it's very unlikely anyone else would come in for him offering wages that'd match or come close to what he'd be on.

I personally don't think we've really got a chance of top flight unless something big happens at ownership level. Just look at some of the money being spent at our level. We can't get anywhere near em

We probably don’t
And it probably won’t for the immediate future
And it’s a scary amount
So what to do in the here and now ?
Now that’s down to personal choice and expectations

I think it’s Woodman…
