Lancashire Cricket 2024

Another shitshow and zero batting points. Bowlers look to be putting up a decent show however

Gloucs lads look like they’ve come straight from the Pub. Which they probably have

I checked at 3:15 before a job and all hope was gone. I’ve just managed to check in and glad I didn’t comment at 3:15, we’re hopefully still in it. It’s a massive shame that Notts are looking good.

Fear not. These 2 will probably break Somerset's tenth wicket record stand of all time. 😒🙄

A lead of 6. I’ve not seen a single delivery today but is it a bowlers wicket or bad batting - my guess is the former as both sides have done the same thing.
You're right about the wicket. It was doing a lot this morning. I thought losing the toss meant losing the match. Pleased to see that isn't necessarily the case.

Tom Abell not fielding, substitute fielder taking his place. I’m being harsh maybe but the law states the injury has to have been incurred during the game to allow a substitute, his injury happened in the final on Saturday. Maybe he should have to field himself.

He definitely shouldn’t be allowed a runner and presumably won’t be allowed to bat at 4.

Considering the way Somerset prepare wickets bordering on, and sometimes passing, the line of unfit ….

"A stumping can only be effected by the wicket keeper without the intervention of another fielder, when the striker is not attempting a run".

Is that the official reason he was not out? Seems contrived. I thought it was a simple run out. We were watching it from the pavilion at the far end so not the greatest view but someone in there had the theory which I thought was sound that it was simply the square leg umpire's view was blocked by Rew who was stood right in front of the wicket so he could not give it. Quite obvious from Somerset reactions that it was out, but Overton got a bit naughty - in football it would have been a yellow then a red!

Clearly he we out of his ground by a mile- but I never knew that. And I’m very surprised. Are there any other laws where the wicket keeper is treated differently from other fielders?

Also noticed that the match report said Somerset got a 5-run penalty for fake fielding. I don’t recall seeing that law applied before. How is it applied… and what actually happened at OT yesterday?

George Dobell said last night that he’s seen footage showing the view was unobstructed so it was probably a genuine error. It doesn’t matter that the ball was thrown by a fielder, although it would have obviously been run out rather than stumped.

The difference between stumping and runout is a technical one only, i.e. the outcome is still the same, batter is out. The only difference is who gets the credit, i.e. keeper or fielder. This one would have been a runout. Poor officiating though

Disappointing that Kent are doing what Kent do. There was an unlikely glimmer of them fighting at 85/0 last night 7 wickets lost already today with Kent still 22 behind... that's not gonna happen.

So we absolutely must beat Somerset and we are giving ourselves every chance of that. Wells just out for 130 but a lead of 382 with 2 wickets remaining is strong. Somerset won't give up though!

So... if we do win, then in the last round of matches, we will need to get 15 points more than Notts or 20 points more than Warks to survive... and they play each other next week. Hopefully no collusion!!
